The 50:50 joint venture between Daimler and Chinese automaker BYD Company Limited, known as Shenzen BYD Daimler New Technology Co., or BDNT, is about to turn out its first-ever concept.
According to the automakers, in April they will unveil an all-electric car in concept form that will also mark the official revealing of the venture’s brand identity, brand name, logo and positioning.
The concept car – yet unnamed – will preview a production-intent vehicle that is scheduled to hit the market in 2013. Daimler says that BDNT is already far along developing the production form of the car, with the intention of having a fully working mule by Spring 2012.
Once the vehicle is ready for production the plan is to make use of Daimler’s quality experts, manufacturing expertise and production systems.
