Daimler Chrysler has reached an agreement with Ford that allows the recently divorced company to use the Daimler name. Jaguar has owned the rights to the Daimler name since 1960 when it acquired the brand set up by German automotive pioneer Gottfried Daimler in 1896. Ford has owned the Jaguar brand since 1989 and the Daimler name is still is used for some high-end Jaguar cars.
According to Automotive News, DaimlerChrysler will now be allowed to use the name alone or in combination with other words as the title of a trading company, a trade name or a corporate name. The deal still allows both companies to use the Daimler name for a product. DaimlerChrysler officials declined to comment of the price of the agreement but said the deal was in place before it agreed to sell its stake of the Chrysler Group to Cerberus. DaimlerChrysler shareholders meet on October 4th to decide on changing the company’s name.
