DaimlerChrysler could cut another 7,500 jobs

DaimlerChrysler’s supervisory board has reportedly approved plans to cut another 7,500 jobs at its vehicle manufacturing business by 2008, Germany’s Stuttgarter Zeitung newspaper reported on Friday. The paper said the world’s fifth-biggest carmaker will cut 5,500 jobs via voluntary redundancies at its premium division Mercedes Car Group, in addition to the 8,500 already announced, and plans to eliminate 2,000 jobs at its commercial vehicles division. In October, Dieter Zetsche denied speculation that the company was planning additional cuts.
