Latvian automaker Dartz, known globally for its showy creations such as the electric and armored Jo-Mojo, has just released a series of sketches that preview an upcoming SUV called Nagel Dakkar.

The Nagel Dakkar is named after Andrew Nagel, a Russian pilot who won the famed Monte Carlo Rally in 1912 and allegedly drove across the Sahara Desert a year later.

In its press release Dartz explains that the Nagel Dakkar is not just a new vehicle, it inaugurates an entirely new class of cars that is called B.N.U.D.S. The initials stand for Bespoke, Noble, Urban, Desert and Safety.

The SUV rides on a race-inspired tubular frame designed by rally experts Saxon Automobile Manufactur. To keep the weight to a minimum the body is made out of carbon Kevlar.

Dartz has yet to put the finishing touches on the SUV's design but the production version will measure roughly 193 inches long, 78 inches wide and 66 inches tall.

Under the hood of the Nagel Dakkar is an AMG-sourced twin-turbocharged V8 that makes 650 horsepower and 626 lb-ft. of torque. Bolted to a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, the V8 propels the car to a top speed that is electronically limited to 155 miles per hour.

When it goes on sale next year the Nagel Dakkar's base price will range between $390,000 and $468,000. Dartz hopes to sell 10 units in 2013, 20 units in 2014, and 40 units in the following years. When all is said and done the Russian company's ambitious goal is to capture a 1.3 percent share of the world's luxury SUV market.

The Nagel Dakkar might seem like a tough sell but Dartz is convinced that there is a market for it.

"Wealthy people need personalized cars. There are tens of bespoke sportscar makers but there are zero bespoke SUV makers," said the automaker in a statement.
