Delphi — the bankrupt auto parts supplier that was formerly a part of GM — has indicated it wants GM to subsidize wages for hourly workers in order to create a new contract both sides can afford. In other words, it wants GM to pay a certainly hourly rate on top of what it’s willing to offer union workers. Meanwhile, a prominent UAW official has said he expects GM will step in to save Delphi. “GM will come to the rescue,” he said during a radio appearance. “We have no doubt about that. They have too much at stake. [...] I don’t necessarily see them taking us back, but I certainly see them contributing a ton of money to keeping us in business,” he said during the radio program. The UAW recently authorized a strike if Delphi gets permission to toss out its labor contracts.
