Alfa Romeo’s long-anticipated return to the North American market will be delayed by at least six months as the Italian automaker refines the designs of three NA-bound vehicles.
According to sources familiar with the situation, Fiat and Chrysler head Sergio Marchionne is not satisfied with Alfa Romeo’s initial crop of North American-bound vehicles. As a result, the vehicles will be going back to the drawing boards for minor tweaks, delaying their launch by at least half a year.
The Giulia mid-size was originally scheduled to arrive in North America in late 2012, but will now arrive sometime around mid-2013. The Giulia will also underpin the replacements for the Chrysler 200 and Dodge Avenger, with those vehicles expected to bow during the second half of 2013.
The delay will also impact the European debut of the 159-replacing Giulia.
