Chrysler’s Crossfire, one of the more blatant examples of collaboration by Chrysler and Mercedes-Benz, will continue at least through the 2008 model year. The Crossfire, which had been rumored to receive the ax, has seen dramatic sales declines since its 2004 introduction, but Chrysler executives say the car is still meeting sales expectations.
AutoWeek reports that the 2008 Crossfire will go into production this summer and will incorporate some very minor changes. Chrysler stopped allowing dealers to order the Crossfire for several months in 2006 in order to clear out existing inventories. The Crossfire is built by German builder Karmann in Germany and is based on the previous generation Mercedes SLK, although the Crossfire is only available in fixed roof and folding cloth top configurations.
Chrysler hasn’t released specific information on the ‘08 Crossfire.

Even though it’s way too expensive, it’s still a nice looking car.

With the seemingly endless cooperation between automakers, one would wonder how they struggle to make money. Chryco is supposed to build a VW version of its new van, etc. I’m not surprised with this. It’s a Mercedes at domestic prices. Even if it’s last generation’s version, it has to be a decent car.
And I expect the Freightliner/Dodge Sprinter versions of the Merc cargo van will continue, as well.

Didn’t they skip the entire ‘06 or ‘07 model year b/c they have too many ’05s still sitting on lots?
IMHO it’s a good looking car, the base price was just too high. I just did a quick cars.com search for USED crossfires and I found 5 NEW 2005/2006 crossfires (with less than 33 miles, probably test driven, LOL) for $18,999-$23,999. Crap, for these prices I may actually give one a look:) Although I wonder about a “new” car warranty on a car that already 2+ yrs old, hahah.
BTW, I searched in northern New Jersey just within a 30 mi radius.

This is based on a R170 SLK, which was good for its time, but had many complaints against it. Most complaints were addressed for the R171 SLK, which is still looking beautiful and going strong since the 2005 model year.
I don’t know how the Crossfire drives though.. I only have experience with the new SLK.

Speaking of slow sales, we still have brand new 2006 Monte Carlos on the lot at my work.
I highly doubt I would buy a car that has sat at a dealership for more than about a month.

If you’re 6′7″, your head goes over the rollbar.
Kinda kills the excitement of getting in such a vehicle.
The SRT6 variant is VERY underrated and underpriced for what it can do.

The Crossfire is one of those “nine lives” kind of vehicles - first Chrysler tried blowing out unsold 2005 models on Overstock.com, then later announced there would be no 2006 Crossfire but production would resume for 2007. However, Chrysler did end up producing a 2006 Crossfire sales brochure in the middle of the 2006 model year, but has yet to mention a 2007 model in its literature or on its Web site. I don’t understand why they are bothering to announce the 2008 model.. but since there is no replacement planned, they might as well keep selling what they have - the investment has more than paid for itself since the platform dates back to late 1996!

Brendino.. the SRT6 disappeared after the 2005 model.. wonder how many were produced? Wouldn’t mind getting my hands on one (if only I fit comfortably in that tight ****pit!).

AMGoff: It’s actually not expensive, mainly because Chrysler uses huge incentives to move them off the lot. In the local ads where I’m from, you can get brand new Crossfires for roughly $25,000. Cheap as hell considering what the MSRP is on them.
I personally can’t believe this thing still exists. The exterior looks okay design wise, but the interior is straight garbage, and it’s based on an essentially decade old platform. Most importantly, it’s not even that sporty to drive, and finding a manual version is like finding a needle in a haystack. Get rid of it.

There definately was a 2006 Crossfire and a 2006 Crossfire SRT-6. My Dentist has a 2006 SRT-6. They were made ONLY in Calander year 2005 (August thru December) but had 2006 titles. There were NO 2007 Crossfires and there will definately be a 2008 and it will be the last. New will be tire air presure monitor.
I pray they keep the Clasic Yellow & the white/Charcoal interior. I will order.
Being built on the Benz SLK 1st Gen is not a bad thing. Not like being built on a Chevy Citation or something.
