Ferrari has been without a true supercar since the Enzo ended its limited production run just a few years ago, but the Italian automaker is hard at work developing its next-generation supercar for launch in 2010. While the new car will be the successor to the Enzo, look for Ferrari to closely follow the saying “less is more.â€
A new Car and Driver report finds that the Enzo successor will be based on the Millechili concept – which was little more than a model created out of cardboard and plastic – but will not wear the Millechili nameplate in production form.
However, the Millechili’s light-weight concepts will make the translation from show car to production. Based on a slightly longer version of the F430’s aluminum space frame, the next-generation Enzo will tip the scales at a mere 2,200 pounds. Combine that svelte curb weight, Ferrari ’s F1 knowhow and a new 600 horsepower V10 and the result is likely to be one of the world’s best performing road cars.
Production of the newest Ferrari supercar is expected to begin in 2010 with a total production run of about 300 units. Pricing is far from official but expected to start at about $500,000.
