Seeing as how Xinhua is reporting that Chinese automakers "stole the limelight" in Detroit and they say the U.S. is their most important future market . . . doesn't anyone else think that Leftlane should have some stories about the Chinese car companies? Again, Xinhua is printing claims from BYD that their electric car is going to be a 3-year-old time-tested vehicle when the Volt is just 1-year-old and unproven. Is that not something we all need to be aware of? The Chinese are on the horizon. Get to know them. They already think they know you and they will do everything they can to know more. Do not be afraid of the Chinese. They are only doing what EVERY people have a right to do-achieve industrialized levels of competence. However, we should be spending some effort learning about them. Every American industry must be looking at ways to ply open the Chinese markets (be that through legitimate trade, legislation, tariffs, the courts, or any other method) The Chinese are employing all available methods to open our markets. Just as they have a right to gain from us, we must secure our right to gain from them.

Do not laugh the Chinese off. Remember that before WWI the U.S. was thought of as a second-rate power. And even before WWII we were not pre-eminent. If we fail to rise to the competition of China then ours will be the last generation that lives such opulent lives.
