The Detroit Auto Show has released the five Chinese automakers that will be attending this year’s show. Earlier this year, representatives from the Detroit show announced five Chinese automakers would be at the show but failed to mention which ones. The attendees will include Changfeng Motor Group, BYD Auto Co., Geely International Corp., China America Cooperative Automotive Inc./ZXNA (Chamco) and Li Shi Guang Ming Auto Design Co.
For all but Changfeng and Geely, it will be a first time appearance at the Detroit Auto Show for the Chinese automakers — which will be featured in the lower section of Cobo Hall.
Glaringly absent from the list are Chery — China’s largest automaker — and Brilliance — which recently passed a European crash test. Neither company has given a reason for not attending the Detroit show.
The fact that five Chinese automakers are attending this year’s show is an indication that the automakers are serious about entering the U.S. market. However, the automakers have several obstacle to overcome — the biggest being safety and quality — before they can successfully enter the U.S. market.
