There’s a big difference between a $20,000 Chinese branded/manufactured car and a $50 gadget that is not Chinese branded. Yes many products are manufactured by the Chinese, and 99% of them are sold to us through Dell, Apple, Magnavox… companies that are known and excepted and not Chinese. The import humpers here won’t buy a GM vehicle because of supposed quality issues. What do you think the reputation of the Chinese is???

If anyone thinks “Chinese” products sell well in the US, by all means try to list off 3 wholly owned Chinese brands from any industry that are popular. Considering it’s pretty difficult to come up with even 1, what makes people think a Chinese car will sell well? Because people will be willing to part with $10,000 or more for a Chinese car when no other product is successful?

I can’t disagree that the Chinese make subpar products … but I also cannot say that supposed German engineering is anywhere near as good as most would like you to believe … an example, look up problems with MINIs … why would the black trim around the wheel wells pop out? Why is the driver side, console-side footwell very hot? Why are there complaints about clutch and flywheel changes needed on brand new vehicles? And all this, and much more, on a supposed ‘premium’ small car.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the Chinese vehicles spend less time in the shop versus their German counterparts.

Well the way I see it guys, is right now we have a total perseption of Chinese made products as… crap! I cannot honestly find one person who will not disagree with me, and I’m sure none of you will disagree with me either! I haven’t known many Korean products, and most people here probably don’t have the same perseption of Korean products as Chinese… or Japanese.

The Japanese haven’t been high production, low quality monsters, unlike the Chinese. The Japanese didn’t enter the United States market with *alot* of shit, if not *everything* (I have to laugh at myself saying that, but while when I began seeing Japanese products they didn’t go horribly wrong in the first day of purchase, and usually had some form of warranty, Chinese products are the contrary).

Deanster, if it was my choice, even if I had to spend a few cents more, I would choose American products over Chinese made ones. But look, none of us have that choice! You can’t even type on your own keyboard without supporting China! It’s in everything, the spoon I’m eating with, even the shoe I’m wearing…

It’s quite comical actually, but what a disaster it’s become! You can’t say “then don’t buy products made in China” if you don’t want to support them is what I’m saying.

If the quality and safety issues are addressed in the future, they have a good chance in the US to replace the Koreans when the Koreans move upscale. Right now it is wait and see.

Look at it this way, they have a fast growing market in their own backyard, so they are not going to go away. That’s for sure.

Guys, don’t underestimate the Chinese – twenty years ago, no one would buy their gadgets and trinkets, but now eBay and all the electronics manufacturers are swimming in Chinese goods and services.

In 10 years they’ll be where Kia/Hyundai were 10 years ago. In 20 years they’ll be gunning for whoever is in the top 3 (probably Toyota, BMW, Hyundai).

Yeap, the same exact shit they’re giving the japanese then the koreans, look where they are now in the auto industry. The chinese is moving even faster and it won’t be long before they become acceptable to the US low end car buyers. In the end, they’ll be making far more money than whoever here is laughing at them. Instead of putting down a competition, it’s better to be cautious and wary. Much the same as what BMW said about Lexus being a competitor. Laugh if you want but they must have at least one good reason for putting Lexus as their main rival.

We are doing business with Commie China every time we are walking into Walmart, Kmart, Macy or even when red blooded American purchases Chevy Equinox and GM derivatives of it. The engine in Equinox is made in China. It is an older GM engine, no big loss if they still technology, but our illustrious executives manufacture a lot of goods in Chinese versions of Gulag. The fact that majority of our shoes and clothing made in China made Chinese quite wealthy and they want to buy cars.Hence, Chinese car companies based on Western know how and either stolen or replicated (just like Equinox engine) technology. In a nutshell we are practicing free economy.

All the Chinese companies were in the basement (fittingly) during the 2007 show at Cobo. They tried to put on a good front, but it was truly laughable. Changieng or Liebao, can’t remember which, had a concept SUV there. It’s interior was foam and cardboard. I don’t know how the people in the booth could look anyone in the eye.
