Electric Renault Kangoo gets more range

Renault has updated the Kangoo Z.E., an electric van about the same size as the Ford Transit Connect. A new 33-kWh battery pack gives the battery-powered Kangoo up to 168 miles of range, though the European testing cycle is notoriously optimistic.   


Electric GT unveils Tesla Model S for the track

Tesla's Model S P100D will participate in a new, one-make race series named Electric GT. The heavily-modified S is 1,100 pounds lighter than the street-legal model, and it can hit 60 mph from a stop in just two seconds flat.   


Lada developing new Niva

Russian automaker Lada is finally starting to develop a replacement for the Niva, an off-roader introduced in 1976. Company CEO Nicolas Maure told French magazine Capital that the all-new model will be considerably more modern in every way than its predecessor. Notably, it will not be related to the Dacia Duster.   


Audi Q7 hybrid axed?

Audi has allegedly canceled the hybrid Q7 e-tron because the model was intended to use a V6 TDI. Instead, the Volkswagen-owned brand will fast-track an all-electric crossover to production.


Maserati recalls Levante S

Maserati is recalling every single Levante S in the United States over a transmission glitch. The issue could cause the transmission to shift into neutral or the engine to shut down when the SUV is traveling at about two miles per hour, according to the NHTSA.   


Production Chrysler Portal coming after 2018

The Portal concept that Chrysler introduced at CES will spawn a production model after 2018, according to The Detroit News. The production model will retain the concept's electric drivetrain and autonomous driving tech.


Next Jeep Grand Cherokee to use Alfa platform

The next-gen Jeep Grand Cherokee will ride on the same rear-wheel drive platform as the Alfa Romeo Stelvio, according to FCA boss Sergio Marchionne. The model isn't expected to debut until 2019.
