true..very true..i just cant get around this concept: they made 5000, people bought them up, they ran out, made 5000 extra, more “first-adopters” put down their money, and then its pulled. All in a year. Oh well, time to trade… Maybe I will buy an H1…:)

The Jeep Liberty never made sense to me anyway. No where near an off-roader, with handling worse than a sedan/wagon. So no upside to make sense of this Mall-Terrain Vehicle.
Jeep needs to make real off roaders and leave it at that. Every manufacturer does not have to cover every segment. Keep the Grand Cherokee and the Wrangler, make long wheel base and short wheel base versions of both. Make them easy to modify for off-roading and let others make the cute-ute Liberty, Compass, etc. for H.S. cheerleaders to pile into. Yes, it’s a girl car. (sorry)
(land rover needs to do the same thing with the Range Rover, Disco, and Defender)

Cant trade in for the GC CRD. Need something soon and preferably simple and a manual transmission. Besides i was just getting used to the fact that the 8 diesel gas stations near my house closed down. Closest is 20 miles away. Wonderful new jersey. I love diesels but this goverment is driving me nuts.

Early word, and we mean early, is that no one— and we mean no one — likes the new Jeep Compass. That includes Jeep customers, Chrysler officials, and even those usually forgiving journalists. The more straight-forward Jeep Patriot will debut at the New York International Auto Show next month and even it is getting guff for just being related to the Compass. Some of the reasons people don’t’ like the Compass? It’s based on the Dodge Caliber platform, not off-road worthy enough for loyalists, and is ugly as sin.

THIS PISSES ME OFF!!!!! I HAVE A LIBERTY CRD AND NOW I HAVE TO TRADE IT IN FOR SOMETHING ELSE? DIDNT THEY REALIZE A YEAR AGO THAT THIS THING WONT MEET EMMISSIONS? I LOVE JEEPS BUT I DONT WONDER WHY MANY ARE GOING TO THE JAPANESE!!!! WHAT THE F**k?!?!?!?!?!?

Yeah, this anti-diesel movement needs to stop. OTOH, I’m glad that Jeep has worked its way around the draconian laws to produce a compatible Diesel engine for the Grand Cherokee.

The EPA has their head so far up their A$$, they don’t realise that tailpipe emissions is only one piece of the pie. The entire life cycle enviromental impact of a car is far more important, and that the diesels they are banning are so much better for the enviroment than gas/eletriic hybrids.

There is no reason that a smaller version of the GC’s Bluetec couldn’t fit in there. My guess is that they will:
1) wait for the next-gen Liberty to re-introduce an oil burner.
2) add the deisel to the Nitro for the time being, do differentiate the products further.

You are not going to see the GC’s engine in the Libby, does honda put the V6 from the Accord into the Civic? Nope…

This is what upsets me with the federal government. The Diesel Liberty performs better than the standard Liberty as far as mileage, but yet America is screwing diesel technology in favor of E-85 and hybrids. Way to go.
