Dieter Zetsche to star in new Chrysler ads

06/23/2006, 12:43 PM

Chrysler boss Dieter Zetsche — the man credited with helping get Mercedes back on track — will star in a slew of new Chrysler ads reminiscent of Lee Iacocca’s classic TV spots. Unlike Iacocca, Zetsche has a German accent and a handlebar moustache. Still, he’ll have more in common with Chrysler’s iconic pitchman than one might expect. “The Zetsche spots crafted by BBDO-Detroit are tailored to fit the former Chrysler CEO’s ability to convey the uniqueness of Chrysler products with the rectitude of a German auto executive,” explains columnist Daniel Howes. “Without taking himself too seriously,” of course.

How to lose any respect your employees had for you in one easy lesson. Way to go Dieter. Lose the hat.

Dieter is the biggest loser. He revieved Mercedes but has driven Chrysler and Dodge into the ground.

6… other way around. revived chrysler and dodge… encouraged the part-sharing that DCX claimed they wouldn’t do… resulted in the crossfire and LX… (the xfire wasn’t a sales success but you have to admit it’s hardly a poor car)… and did so well that he is NOW running mercedes. no, dcx isn’t exactly selling up a storm or even out of the hole, but it certainly isn’t hurting as bad as ford or gm

The crossfire is a very poor car in looks execution and driveability. Mercedes sales are doing great, but Caliber, COmpass, new Sebring 300C Charger magnum commander all look like dogs dinners.

Dr. Zetsche,
Would you ever consider making a Jeep Wagoneer again? I think that it would be a strong attraction to make people buy American again.
