In anticipation of next week’s North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Chrysler unwrapped a bunch of new trim packages today, the latest of which are the curiously named and brightly-colored Nitro Heat, Detonator and Shock.
The base Nitro is apparently now called the Nitro Heat, which gains the previously optional 4.0-liter, 260-horsepower V6. It also comes with 20-inch painted alloy wheels, Bluetooth, cruise control, an alarm and Sirius satellite radio. The Nitro Heat starts from $23,995 including destination.

Just what the new Nitro Detonator trim pack can blow up is unknown, but at least it adds some equipment and value to its unique color scheme. Starting with the now-discontinued Nitro SXT, the Detonator adds 20-inch alloy wheels, a premium stereo with subwoofer, remote start, parking assist, exterior color-matched cloth seat trim and, of course, the paint and decal scheme. The Nitro Detonator will list from $25,995 when it goes on sale soon.

Apparently a detonator causes shock – or something like that – when heated seats and a sunroof are added. And for $26,995, buyers can get the Nitro Shock, which adds exactly those features.

The naming strategy is all part of the automaker’s attempt to add more spark to what it calls its “full-of-life brand.”
