In addition to marking Chrysler's first legitimate rival for vehicles like the Toyota Corolla and Honda Civic in years, the Dart also represents the first vehicle borne of Chrysler's tie-up with Fiat. The Dart is based on the same front-wheel drive platform as the Alfa Romeo Giulietta.
When the Dart arrives on dealers lots it will carry a base price of $15,995. The $19,995 Dart Limited will stand as the range's flagship until the $22,495 R/T model arrives in the fall.
Chrysler is planning to boost employment at the Belvidere plant to 4,500 workers by the end of the year, according to The Detroit News.
