Dodge celebrates 25,000th Viper

03/11/2008, 9:38 AM

By Drew Johnson

Although Chrysler doesn’t have much to celebrate about these days, tomorrow will mark a major milestone for the Michigan-based automaker. Tomorrow at Chrysler’s Conner Avenue Assembly Plant, the 25,000th Dodge Viper will roll off the assembly line.

Viper production began in 1992 at Chrysler’s New Mack Assembly, but shifted to the Conner Avenue location in in 1995. A year after, in 1996, the GTS coupe joined the RT/10 roadster in the Viper lineup. In 2003, the Viper saw its first major redesign, which also included a bump in displacement and power.

The keys to the 25,000th Viper will be handed over to NASCAR driver Kurt Busch for being the top Dodge driver in 2007.

I kind of thought that number would be higher. You have to wonder what the Viper’s future is.

That picture comes STRAIGHT from the pages of an article on the Viper ACR from Automobile Magazine. I wonder if they know that this copyright violation is going on. Snapshot of the page taken, will keep it for future reference as leverage in case my account here at LLN ever gets deleted (again)

Syrax, I too have never lusted after the Viper like I have other cars, although I’ve seen one in action in person, and they are ungodly beasts. I’ve never been crazy about the gutteral sounds that come from a V-10, but they do sound pissed off for sure.

HA! The Crapura RL barely sells more than this niche market, cobbled together old-tech heap.

My friend’s dad owns two vipers, a red RT/10 convertible and a blue 96 GTS; both of which are equipped with superchargers, upgraded headers, track gears, and aero goodies. As much as I dislike the statement the Viper makes (loud, large, and in charge) because I am more of a clean subdued look kind of person, I cannot deny the fact that it is one of the most badass cars around. I have had the pleasure of driving the GTS which is running at well over 600hp, and never in my life have I rolled down the street with such an invincible feeling. When/if one of you gets the chance to drive a Viper, you will soon find yourself rolling up next to Vette’s, high class tuners, and exotics. And instead of looking at these cars wondering how fast they are, you will be looking at them in your rear view mirror wondering how long it will take them to catch up if you let off the accelerator. Like I said it isn’t my style but there is no question, the Viper has it’s place, and that place is pretty high up.

F3INT))AP3X, how are you going to “find yourself rolling up next to Vette’s, high class tuners, and exotics” if the POS is stuck on the back of a tow truck? Tell your father to get a real car next time (Corvette, Camaro when it arrives).

Wow 25,000 Vipers produced total? I’ve seen like maybe 10 in my whole life. I love this car and it’s definitely up there on my top favorite. I saw an older GTS-R go against a 600hp ZO6 on Woodward Avenue a couple summers ago late at night and holy **** those two were soo loud I could feel the noise in my chest as they were racing by.

I got a ride in a neighbor’s of one of my friend’s who owns a red Viper SRT-10 Coupe with silver stripes and oh man was it quick, it sounded great, and If I could find a way to steal that car I would… j/k

Some of the comments on here just amaze me. So what kind of car do you drive SoLoveLA? I bet you’ve never even gotten behind the wheel of a car with the kind of power a Viper delivers. Also anyone who thinks a Corvette is a better car is off dreaming somewhere, my friend’s dad went through 23 Vette’s before he bought his Vipers so something tells me the Viper is the better car when he tells me so. And “Oil for GM” I don’t know what kind of drugs you smoke that makes you think a Vette or even more ridiculous a Camaro is better than a Viper, but keep smoking them and eventually you will be contented to think your 89 Camry is better than a Supra.

The viper is going out of production in 2011.
25,000 cars is not enough to sustain it’s continuation.
Goodbye viper.

SoLoveLA, the ONLY thing the Viper’s engine shares with the truck’s is the block. NOTHING else. Plus, the only reason a Viper wouldn’t take a corner well is because the idiot driver probably gave it too much throttle. I saw Clarkson drive one and he couldn’t drive it to save his life… at first. Once he got the hang of it he just had a blast power sliding it. It pulls 1.00G on a 300ft skidpad. For comparison, the LeMans winning C5-R pulls 1.44G. The Viper isn’t far off from that.

Get Real

If GM could design the Corvette with a SOUL like the Viper was born with a lot more people would lust after a Corvette again.

The wind-tunnel is the design god at GM.

May someone destroy it one day and force GM into the design studio for the next Corvette.

I happen to sell Viper’s, and I have to tell you, there is absolutely no way to compare a Viper to a Vette. I’ve had guys trade in there Vette’s, and once they do, they never go back. This car is hand built by a group of 50 hand picked from the best. They only build about 1500 a year and with over 100 variations of paint, stripes and wheels, each car is as unique as it’s owner.

Because of this cars raw nature, only the most experienced could ever drive it. Disrespect it’s power for even a second and you’ll find your self wrapped around a pole. No traction control, no ABS brakes, no Stability program, that’s the way a true sports car is meant to be, man and machine.

That’s so true, the first time I drove one I hopped in thinking it was going to be such great fun. I pulled out onto the street nice and easy and then I gave it some gas. Let me start off by saying that when you “give it some gas” in the Viper, you better use just you’re pinky toe. I proceeded to peel out in gears 1-3 and finally got it under control in 4th lol. I’ve driven it a few more times since but it goes without saying, the Viper is beast that is leagues apart from the Vette, not to mention it gets way more attention from a crowd, nobody gives a **** about Vette’s anymore as far as when they pull up somewhere public.
