SEMA 2009: Dodge Challenger 1320 Concept

11/03/2009, 6:59 PM

By Andrew Ganz

Chrysler’s intention with the Dodge Challenger 1320 Concept, presented earlier today at the 2009 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, is to offer a street-legal, drag racing-oriented version of its Challenger SRT8.

First and foremost, the Challenger 1320 adds a 426 cubic-inch aluminum Hemi V8 crate engine. The upgraded engine puts out 556 horsepower and 540 lb-ft. of torque and comes with Mopar long-tube headers and a Corsa exhaust system.

The rear axle, a Dana 60, comes with an ARB Air locker and heavy duty half shafts courtesy of Dynatrac. An adjustable coil-over kit by Mopar helps anchor the Charger police steel wheels with drag racing tires.

The Challenger loses some weight with an interior clean-up, Viper seats and a revised exterior.

I like the exterior, but the interior is too crude.

ooooh 7 liters is gonna make a shltton of weight, im gonna have to see some track times because although i like the numbers coming from the engine the idea of its overall performance is alittle bit doubtful

Joke. Nobody gives a crap about a dead car from a dead company. Everyone watched SEMA for one pony car, the Camaro. Nothing else.

Go GM!!!! Put everybody else out of business!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can’t wait to see the imports gone in the next few years, victims of the American Revolution!

Americans finally get it, this is GM Country!

An American Revoution!!!!

Snoogah +1

This thing must have 80% of its weight in the front axles, with such a big engine it must handle like poopoo…

snoogah + telememo, apparently you didn’t get the memo even though it’s plastered on the side of the car. 1320 is slang for a quarter mile, which is the typical distance for a drag race. There shouldn’t be any turning going on in a drag race so overall performance is a mute point.

Chrysler’s performance in terms of cornering (turning) comes from another vehicle in its stable. It’s called the Viper, you may have heard of it.

Man, I dont think many people really know much about the aluminum block 426 hemi. I would be very surprised if the engine weighed the same as the current 6.1L hemi. As for people calling the interior too crude, this is a loosely disguised drag racing car, which you can tell by the 1320 on side and the racing tires. Who cares about creature comforts on the track. Thank you Chrysler for bringing back the mighty 426 Hemi.

Oil for GM,

Sorry but no one really cares about the Camaro and talk about a dead company, Chrysler has a better chance of surviving owned by Fiat than GM has owned by Obama.
