Following a trend that has become the norm throughout the auto industry, Dodge has announced that it will idle its Saltillo, Mexico Ram pickup truck production facility for two weeks. The shutdown – which is being called a “temporary shutdown” – began on June 9 and will continue through June 23.
The stoppage is intended to help bring Ram inventory more in line with consumer demand. “This is nothing that we have not talked about before,” Manuel Duarte, corporate communications director for Chrysler in Mexico, told Automotive News. “It will be the same until the situation in the U.S. changes because they are the main market for our exports.”

The Mexican plant employs about 2,000 workers.

The Saltillo plant produced 169,301 Ram s in 2007, up from 153,890 a year earlier.
