Dodge has announced that it will be idling three of its truck plants in January. Both the Warren, MI and Fenton, MO plants will be shut down for the entire month of January, with Dodge’s Heavy Duty Coahuila, Mexico truck plant shutting down for the first two weeks of January.
A slumping credit market and high gas prices are being blamed for the Ram’s 2% sales slip this year. Dodge will unveil its all-new Ram pickup at this January’s Detroit Auto Show.

Yeah, really CA36. Are there like 3 domestic manufacturers but only one executive washroom?

Johnny, I think representatives from each meet up weekly to discuss ways to screw **** up. Larry from GM, Moe from Chrysler, and Curly from Ford.

Guys, the general idea would be to NOT flood the market with unsold units, right? Remember supply and demand from economics class? It is interesting that they are finally allowed to idle plants instead of just producing unsold orders anyway.
BTW, I found it interesting that GM is able to be into the 3rd model year for the Solstice and still no retail incentives. The only thing they are doing is including it in the 0% on 2007 models, and a small leasing subsidy. Maybe they are all going to try to follow that business model from now on…

Injun, if anything the price of the Solstice is going UP from what I can see. The GXPs I am seeing now are closer to $31k than they are to $28k.

Hey, I understand and support reducing truck inventory. I’ve been smacking GM over the head with that for over a year. I just find it funny how Chrysler and Ford need to wait for GM to make a move to know what to do.

Toyota should follow soon unless they want to go into their cash pile and put more incentives to move more of their Turds

this is what these auto companies should have been doing the entire time because of, what most of you have already said, over production. it is technically losing money if the vehicles never leave the lots until they are marked down so substantially that the companies make no money anyway. like jjt said, raiv talks a lot of sense with this whole supply and demand mumbo-jumbo…

Not necessarily, “no more incentives”. When manufacturers will not be able to sell their inventory, there will be 8 large as an incentive again. Each truck yields 10K, so even 9 large incentive is a good deal for manufacturer.
