It wasn’t all that long ago that the domestic automakers launched almost every new car with some sort of incentives. But as Detroit’s Big Three have attempted to wean themselves of incentives, we’ve seen fewer and fewer launches with discounts right off the bat, especially among hot-selling trucks. The recent economic downturn and high fuel prices have done some crazy things to the truck market, so it comes as no real shock that the highly-anticipated 2009 Dodge Ram has an incentive slapped on it as it hits showrooms now.
Dodge isn’t advertising the incentives, which are $500 on a regular cab and $1,000 on a crew cab, though dealers can advertise it and information is available on the automaker’s website. Dodge says the incentives are necessary because dealers are still working to clear out leftover 2008 inventory, which is discounted up to 40 percent for certain models.

The incentives last through the end of September and it’s unclear whether Dodge will renew them for October.
