I stand corrected, apparently it *will* come with a Diesel engine, but only for overseas markets. Don’t know any specifics though…

Sorry, I was thinking about the utility division of MOPAR/DC as a whole (Jeep in particular but Dodge also used to add to the image…Powerwagon etc..).

JD: that reminds me of the Blazer 4.3L V-6, it guzzles A LOT of gas (14 MPG), yet doesn’t even break the 200 horsepower barrier. You couldn’t smoke the rear tires even if you wanted to.

About the 3.7 engine…as far as I’m concerned, there’s no reason for it to exist. My Grand Cherokee is powered by this engine, and it gives poor gas mileage (14 city/20 highway according to my dashboard display) with nothing in return (i.e. the thing’s a complete dog). My sister has a Durango with the 4.7 V8, and it gets similar fuel economy; the difference is that something actually happens when you step on the gas. If the V6 is slow and offers no gas savings, then why build it at all?

Those prices are attractive. Six months after the launch, it will sell for $17,000 and $65/mth lease. So typical for Chrysler!

I believe this is a decent path for Jeep. Don’t get me wrong, I still think they should re-establish their tough go anywhere image…commander etc… but face it, in this market they need a ‘car’ also. I predict that eventually it will have a diesel option and become a highly sought after vehicle.
It is stupid to get too caught up in the looks of cars on this board. ‘Beauty is in the eye of the beholder’ after all, and you really cant tell from pics how it is really going to look on the street.
I am sure there are people somewhere that like the look of the Pontiac Aztec (barf)

mossy: the 3.7 is the anemic carryover from the current-gen Liberty. The 4.0 is a great motor if you look at the torque and hp curves and gas mileage.

Frankly I am surprised that the 3.7 wasn’t replaced by the 3.8

Both engines will be retired by the end of this products life-cycle when a new line of high-feature engines take to production.

i like the looks and the big wheels but damn. the engine. how can they only manage to get 255 hp from a 4.0L V6 and 210 hp from 3.7L V6

That’s not bad pricing at all it’s REALLY good. I would presume this will sell fair to good, maybe a big hit. I still don’t like the looks that much, but it will probably sell good.

To make this thing truly appealing they shoud have made the 4.0 Liter engine standard instead of the weak 3.7 engine and given the RT something with more beef.

If you look at v6 midsize SUV’s, nothing comes close to this as far as power vs room vs price.

This is a great price point, and I think this will sell well.

I AM surprised that the spy shots of the next gen liberty (KK, entering production June 2007) haven’t shown up here as they have been circulating for the last several weeks…
