Remember a few years ago when banks built a truck an set a 222 mph record and then advertised it as the fastest pick-up in the world.reference the website under sidwinder project. It didnt state class or powerplant. This truck was built under this premise. Now that adds a new level of competition between two performance driven companies.

Cobra, I’m going to have to disagree with you there, it’s not the same class at all. It’s like saying the fastest 2 door hatchback is a f1 car.
The ram here was highly tuned and the previous record holder could be bought by just walking into the dealership

That truck used to be a parts delivery truck at Mike Ege Racing Engines in Mooresville North Carolina! I helped Mike picked it out at the dealership. It was a strip-o model, the only options being V8 auto, and air. Wayne bought it from Mike about 6 months later.

The Jesel truck adhered to all of the requirements for the class in which it ran.The “production” truck that you mentioned ran 158 mph, which is 66 mph slower.Beating a Land Speed Record by 66 mph is quite an accomplishment.

I don’t think it’s really fair to say that it’s beaten the previous record as that record was set in a production vechicle not a totally custom tuned one.

Flex-fuel technology has nothing to do with cylinder deactivation. Flex-fuel technology means that a vehicle can run on regular gas or as much as 85 percent ethanol.

I am fairly sure ford did this first back in the mid to late 1990s as well. I remember working on lots of FFV(Flex Fuel Vehicle) Ford Taurses and thinking it was funny that no gas station had E85 ethanol for at least 1,000 miles so what was the point.

it wold probably be ford, because dodge has mds, similar to gm’s dod (now active fuel management)… they put it in production before gm too, i think… ford hasnt done anything in that area…

Jay – I’m not exactly sure about whether it’s Ford or Dodge, but the new GMs (inc. Chevy) are suppossed to be the most fuel-efficient line of full-size SUVs and trucks (no doubt helped by their flex-fuel technology), which allows the engine to deactivate up to 4 cylinders when at cruising speed.

WAIT…. who the hell ever said it was a diesle people? PLEASE READ THE DAMN ARTICLE, says nothing about being a diesle. This is not a picture book of some sort, we are all capable of reading (I believe we all are… I HOPE we all are) the article…
Wow 32 square foot piece of plywood… I’m sure that helps (the normal trucks not this trucks unless they did something to the front end) fuel economy. What truck gets the worse fuel economy? I believe in it’s class it’s a Dodge but I’m not sure…

Torque is irrelevany to outright speed. Diesels suck as race motors, they make less horsepower and can’t rack any RPM’s to an equivelant DOHC engine. Audi, and other diesel manufacturers use these “race cars” as propoganda instead of educating the populace on the REAL advantages of diesel engines.

Wayne Jesel’s 5500lb Dodge Ram set and then reset the Class C Modified Production record at Bonneville Salt Flats this week. The Quad Cab pick-up easily moved its 32 sq. ft. of frontal area, equivalent to an upright sheet of plywood, across the flats and obliterated the existing record of 158mph with an average speed of 203.87 MPH on Sunday.
Tuesday, the Jesel sponsored Dodge Ram put it’s 930hp to full use on the long track. Resetting their own record, Jimmy Barton drove the 5500lb Dodge Ram Quad Cab pick-up to an astonishing 2 run average of 224.08 MPH, officially setting the C/MP record and making it the fastest pick-up truck ever to run in its class at Bonneville Speedweeks.

2200 miles from their Mooresville, North Carolina shop, it took months of preparation by the Jesel sponsored team to break the record. Wayne Jesel called upon Jesel Valvetrain’s head engine technician Bob Cave and the engineering wizardry of his brother Dan Jesel to develop an engine capable of the task. Using Jesel’s resources to gather the components needed to assemble a potent Dodge NASCAR type engine, Wayne’s Dodge R5 block / P7 head combination was opened up to 370 cubic inches and was fitted with a custom made Wilson billet dual 4 barrel manifold. With the latest in Rocker Arm, Lifter and Belt Drive technology available, the engine had no issues making 930hp on Jesel’s Superflow Engine Dyno.

The truck itself was modified to accept a full roll cage, a 9” Ford rear gear housing mounted to a stock leaf spring style suspension and an air shifted 5 speed Jerico transmission. Retaining all the stock body panels, the truck was fine tuned through hours of wind tunnel testing. A unique, carburetor air cooling system was manufactured to reduce the temperature of the incoming air charge.

The torque probably cannot be measured by any normal chassis or engine dyno. It is probably so high it would break a dyno.
