Following its official launch at the 2009 Chicago Auto Show, Dodge has slapped a price tag on its lineup of 2010 Heavy Duty Ram models. Although the 2010 models promise to be even more capable than their outgoing counterparts, Dodge has managed a price cut on the new trucks.
Available in 2500 and 3500 guises, Dodge’s new Ram Heavy Duty pickup lineup gives buyers needing some extra capabilities a viable option within the Dodge brand. The base model 2500 regular cab ST 4×2 with an 8-foot box will list from $28,165 — including destination — representing a $1,970 price cut over the 2009 model. A similarly equipped 3500 base model will carry a sticker price of $35,630.
Prices run the gamut from there, topping out at $51,595 for a fully-loaded 3500 model. A Power Wagon model will also be available.
The Heavy Duty models borrow most of their styling from the Ram 1500 , but do have a few unique design cues – including a revised front grille, hood louvers and unique rear quarter panels on models equipped with dual-rear wheels.
Power for the Ram Heavy Duty lineup is provided by either a 5.7L HEMI V8 engine or a 6.7L Cummins diesel. The HEMI generates 383 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque while the Cummins diesel option ups the ante to 350 horsepower and a stump-pulling 650 lb-ft of torque. The Cummins option will likely be a popular one for Ram’s 2010 Heavy Duty models as it has historically made up about 90 percent of Dodge ’s Heavy Duty truck sales.
Towing and payload capacities are also up for the new trucks, with the Ram 3500 model capable of towing 18,500 pounds and hauling around 5,100 pounds in its bed.
Although most Heavy Duty trucks are used for work rather than pleasure, Dodge has equipped its 2500 and 3500 HD trucks with plenty of luxury amenities. Buyers can chose options like a 30 gig sound system with 10 surround sound speakers, a Sirius backseat television system, a heated steering wheel and Chrysler ’s Uconnect wireless internet system.
Dodge’s HD lineup will also give buyers plenty of body style options, with the crew cab configuration being offered on the Ram Heavy Duty for the first time.
In addition to Heavy Duty pickup models, Dodge will also offer its HD lineup in Cab Chassis models — available in 2500 through 5500 models. Cab Chassis models are typically reserved for commercial applications, with Dodge hoping its new model will capture about 25 percent of the market.
