2010 Dodge Ram Power Wagon [Spied]

07/21/2009, 10:07 AM

By Mark Kleis

We’ve already introduced Dodge’s revamped line of 2010 Ram heavy-duty pickups, but one special edition has remained in hiding — until now. Our spies have finally caught the Hemi-powered Dodge Ram Power Wagon uber off-road pickup.

How do we know it’s the Power Wagon? Big “Power Wagon” lettering across the rear tailgate for starters – not to mention an integrated 12,000 lb winch in the front bumper and its hallmark solid front axle give it away. The purpose-built Power Wagon is the only 2010 Ram HD model with a 4.56 rear axle, locking front and rear differential and electric sway bar disconnect for maximum articulation off-road.

Making the Power Wagon unique is the fact that it is based on the 2500 HD platform, and yet features the front fascia from the 2009 1500 series Ram. This means that the Power Wagon gets the best of both worlds with the heavy-duty platform and a more aggressive and aerodynamic front fascia to go along with it. Also worth noting is the fact that the Power Wagon will only be available in crew cab configuration, making it 9 inches longer than the previous model.

It looks like the 2010 Ram Power Wagon will carry over its BF Goodrich All-Terrain KO LT285×70R17 33-inch tires, and at least the test mule is still sporting the 17-inch aluminum wheels from the 2005-09 model – although we expect a wheel change come production.

The prototype spotted today looks to be near production ready, so expect the 2010 Ram Power Wagon to hit Dodge dealers in early 2010.

I’m more of a GMC fan HD baby, but this is a nice truck. Power Wagon is a good name as well.

Here’s an appropriate specialized license plate for the Power Wagon: WHTTRSH.

No Howsmydriving that would be more accurate for the Chevy Truck owners White Trash. Like sitting in their 1/2 overated and underpower Chevy PU in competitors Car lots to tell them they got a better PU to inflate their delusional egos.

I guess a cool truck for those who are into this. I personally don’t get it: too heavy, mediocre acceleration, shoddy handling, impossible to park, guzzles gas, makes you look like you are compensating for a small Johnsonville Bratwurst.

Dodge is finally reviving the Power Wagon name. I’ve been waiting for this one. However, I liked the concept they came up with earlier this decade. This looks like a beefy Ram with a Titan back end.

iafb83, that’s how a truck is SUPPOSED to be. Quick trucks are for those that want to play with their truck. Slow trucks are for those that want to play with their boats and other toys, or those that want to work.

Bankruptcy2009 – I hate to admit it, but you probably will see more of these relegated to pavement princess duty, where the closest thing they’ll see to fording a river is getting washed every Saturday by some overprivileged suburbanite. I really hope I get to spot one doing what it’s intended to do some day, being driven by some hard working gitter done types at the jobsite or in the back woods. It looks like an impressive truck.

power wagon is pretty close to pu$$y wagon, so maybe it has that going for it…although it does seem odd that the power wagon isn’t a wagon, but a pick up…

Lots of animosity toward and speculation about pickup owners today. I’d argue that most of the vehicles we rave about here could be viewed as excessive or pretentious. Camaro SS, Super Snake, SLS AMG, Ghost, R8… Anything practical about any of those? So LLN gets a line on a pretty utilitarian, beefy truck, and it’s good for nobody except status-hungry, uncool, wasteful suburbanites? (Or rednecks?) The guys that built our houses might take offense.

Powerball drawing is tomorrow. Maybe I’ll get one of these AND an Enzo.

I understand that the Power Wagon is supposed to be off-road “focused” and that gas jobs are normally better for said application, but they REALLY need to put a Cummins into the Power Wagon trim level.

i’m not sure it was the case they were losing money hand over fist on pick up trucks…in fact, i’d guess they made money on trucks, but until you ref some stats, it’s all conjecture…

This could turn out to be a great off-roading vehicle… But I have to totally agree with zfenderguy. I don’t think I’ll EVER see one of these things covered in mud, it’s simply going to serve as a trophy item for some suburban wannabe.

Very informative post. Dodge get lot of success from ram. Dodge Ram have 6 speed automatic transmission. The Drive layout is a typical RWD or a 4WD. Ram HD is available in three cab i.e regular cab; crew cab and mega cab. Interiors are same as the features of the 2009 model. Controller can communicate all information to the driver through the gauge cluster information center right between the speedometer and tachometer.
