Well I am a Ford guy, but I like all auto makers who put effort into making something diffrent and special. The SRT 10 is cool, but could be a lot better for the price. I bought a used 2003 Lightning for about $27,000 with only 1,000 miles on it. The lightning stock runs a 13.7-13.6 ET, what does the dodge truck run. From what I remeber there is not that big of a diffrence. I mean I paid $27,000 for a truck with 380HP, and 450FTLBS, and thats out of a 5.4 liter. I could do a lot to my truck with the 15-20 grand I saved and put that brick to shame. I don’t think stock to stock the SRT could out handle the Lightning either. The fastest pickup is made by holden and made in Australlia. Chevy power under that hood. Now only if dodge would come out with their challenger that actually looks like the concept, I think I would have to nut myself…..

sorry to see the srt 10 go but up here in Canada the truck sells for about $59,000 plus our 6% and 8% taxes which put this truck aroud $67,000 a lot of money this truck. Dodge should build the truck with the new 6.1 hemi and a 6 speed stick and maybe this would be more affordable for us northern folks

I just bought mine on 8/1/06 for$38,000 new,but its a 05 that they never sold ,look at it as a investment,I knew with a 2year run(quad cab)It will be one of the rarest trucks ever.I was told,mine is(122 of 500) the color is red. Does anyone know the exact production numbers for the 05 model quad cab.And in defence of the RAM SRT10,its nice to have a big room,no more sitting 8inches of the ground with your legs straight out,it is the most comfortable hot rod I’ve ever owned.Drive one and you will understand what envy is about.

ive been very pleased with my srt10 ram, hardly no stock car or truck can out run them. i run mine every weekend at the track. but its never fast enuff!

#52: although I agree the Viper would tear the GT to pieces, the GT will not be made anymore for a different reason. The GT will cease production in ’07 because safety standards (not poor sales) have radically changed in such a way that the car can’t be sold as it is. A full re-design was deemed too costly by Ford, hence they decided to scrap it entirely.

ok, keep your japanese immatation of an american workhorse. even comparing base models, I’d take a domestic truck (any make) over the tundra. It has a weaker frame, worse engines, and in my opinion a sub-par ifs.

no one can argue that the tundra is built for the suburban chores while the domestics are designed for the daily professional workhorse duties.

the only plus a tundra has is the e-locker system, and the removable 3rd rear.

why do people compare the ford gt to the viper? thats the most unfair match ever! the gt is almost twice the price of a viper. if you took the 2 cars and made the price equal by getting a big ass supercharger and other crap for the viper, i garuntee the viper would slaughter the gt.

if you “can haul 8000lbs friend and still do the 0-60 in less than 5-seconds” that is down right amazing. using the old drag racing rule that 100lbs = .1 that would be unloaded the car would do 0-60mph in -3sec!!!! Beat that Veyron……….

Lucas, first thing is needed, stop speculating and do some research…this sport truck can haul 8000lbs friend and still do the 0-60 in less than 5-seconds friend.

You can haul with it, you can add a real family with quad cab version…yes, REAL MEN wth REAL MONEY can afford this truck. Others just have envy.

The next truck will appear sometime in latter of 2008. It will return.

I love trucks and actually have moved furniture in them. I love the real world usefullness
but idea of a sport truck has always seemed stupid to me. Who really needs to haul a dresser from 0 to 60 in eight seconds.

Timbo is right, the SRT-10 is not the fastest pickup on the planet anymore. I never liked the SRT-10 anyways, there is no point to a fast truck. I want a truck that can haul my trailer, boat, camper, etc. not one that can only haul ass….well on second thought maybe a Typhoon, but thats purely for the fact that they are rare and they don’t need a huge V10 to go fast.

Brilliant observation. Finally Porsche can beat a car designed in 1998 and first campaigned 7 years ago! Of course, that is only AFTER the ACO has reduced the restrictor size on the R8 engine and stipulated the R8 carry ballast as well. And of course it’s no longer a factory campaigned car. The misinformation here is rampant. Why are so many more Porsche GT3s competing than Vipers? Easy, because the Viper so dominated FIA racing in the late 90s it was crippled with air restriction limitations to the point it was no longer competitive. Rest assured it would be just as dominant today if allowed to race without all the handicaps. And that was, by the way, in a class ahead of the Porsches which ran in the GT class instead of the GTS class where the Vipers were. By contrast, rather than actually racing to win, Porsche cries and moans to FIA officials when its cars aren’t competitive. Just ask BMW. They can tell you about the M3GTR that was much faster than the GT3RSs so Porsche essentially had it banned from competition. If you can’t win on the track, win with some back room political b.s. Segue to Porsche’s latest racing effort, their LMP2 car, which has no factory competition whatsoever (because they have no balls to take on Audi or get their ass handed to them in F1). So in addition to the (basically) one make GT2 class they can now brag about their championship LMP2 team, because they can beat up on a Lola that some guy built in a barn with Cole Trickle and Harry Hogge. End rant.

that is the Autoweek Article. though the cross country part was a sidebar and doesnt seem to be included online. But yes, the driver drove it some 3200miles and reached 187mph in the dessert somewhere out west. if you read through the article it does not mention once that it was hard to drive or lacks power out of the turns. i would save up the extra $25,000

1) you make it sound like there were GT3′s pulling 187 on public roads. please clarify.
2)what do side pipes and a hotter interior have to do with this motor, useable power, etc? nothing. If you want to compare the power-to-size ratio’s, interior comfort playes no part.

Base Price: 2007 Porsche 911 GT3 -$106,000 / 108,083€
Base Price: 2007 Porsche 911 GT3 RS -129,659 €
Base Price: 2006 Dodge Viper SRT-10-$81,895
Big difference here. $25,000 can buy a lot.
4) Dodge has pulled factory backing of the Team Vipers. With DCX support, the Vipers mopped up, hands down. Now, they offer a turnkey (Comp Coupe) but no other backing.

also your numbers are sort of deceptive. the GT3 redline is at 8400rpm. peak hp is 800rpm before the redline and torque is nearly 3000rpm from the redline. you dont have to drive around revving it like mad to get power from the engine. with out a dyno graph all this is useless arguing, if anyone can supply an engine dyno for both cars could you please post a link.

you cant say “MUCH more Torque and lower RPS’s make for more useable power”. There is alot more to driving a car then what the power curve looks like. Gearing will determine how useable the power is regardless of how much or where it is on the power band. Every review of the Viper says the cabin get uncomfortably hot because of the side pipes. alternatively, a recant article i read was a drive across the country in the 911 GT3. Not a single problem save a blown tire, and the car returned 25mpg and at one point went 187mph. i would also put my money on a GT3 over the Viper or nearly any road course you can put in front of them. Also, if the Viper was a superior car why is there an army of GT3-RS running in just about every racing series out there? As compared to MAYBE 2 or 3 vipers?

The original Viper engine was a derivitive of the LA block (magnum) V10, however, everything was reworked (with some help from Lamborghini) and the final product has roots tracing to the old Magnum truck engine… but nothing more.

The ’08 (there is no ’07) will have an 8.4l, 650+hp, v10 built by McLaren.

2006 8.3l vs 911 GT3 3.6l

Viper
Power bhp (kW) at RPM: 500(372) / 5600
Torque lb-ft (Nm) at RPM: 525(712) / 4200

GT3
Power bhp (kW) at RPM: 415(310) / 7600
Torque lb-ft (Nm) at RPM: 300(407) / 5500

MUCH more Torque and lower RPS’s make for more useable power. Simple, really.

The first V10 Viper engine did not have anything to do with the Ram engine. The Ram engine was an iron block; the Viper engine aluminum. Lamborghini (then DC owned) also engineered the head (and actually did a crappy job so Team Viper ended up reengineering it) but it had NO common parts with the Ram engine.

this will all make way for a new viper and a new engine. I hope it will still be a v10 but I hope it will be of smaller displacement(6-7 litres) with the technology introduced in the Hemi engines. This engine has a power curve like no other, but its just big and heavy. the first v10 viper engine came straight out of the ram. the current one is specifically made for the viper but is used also in this truck… I want to see the progression go even further towards the race-bred engine
