Not looking to make the same mistake twice, Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne has revealed that the automaker’s upcoming small car will take the form of a sedan rather than a hatchback.
Chrysler’s decision to replace the Dodge Neon sedan with the Caliber hatchback hasn’t exactly proven to be fruitful, but the Michigan automaker has no plans to repeat that folly. Dodge’s Caliber replacement will take the form of a more conventional compact sedan.
Despite its sedan body style, the new Dodge model will be based on the Alfa Romeo Giuletta hatchback. Marchionne added that the Giuletta’s architecture “will govern all of Chrysler’s C- and D-segment vehicles, both passenger cars and SUVs, for the foreseeable future.â€
Dodge’s new compact sedan is expected to enter production at the automaker’s Belvidere, Illinois factory during the first part of 2012.
