Dodge unveils Trazo C1.8 for Latin America

One of the first fruits of the Nissan-Chrysler agreement was unveiled yesterday at the Sao Paolo Auto Show in Brazil. Essentially a very thinly veiled version of the Nissan Versa sold in North America, the Trazo C1.8 is the result of an agreement between the two automakers that will see Dodge-badged small cars in certain markets and a Nissan-badged derivative of the next-generation Dodge Ram for North America.

The Trazo C1.8 goes on sale in mid-2009. Equipped with an E100-capable 1.8-liter, four-cylinder motor, the Trazo will be available with both automatic and manual transmissions, according to Dodge.

Changes from the North American-market Versa sedan appear to be limited to badging and small details.

And why couldn’t they just stick a crosshair grill on the front, slap a couple of Ram logos over the Nissan crests and throw it in showrooms here? Too close for comfort? If that’s the case just leave a couple of screws missing, then devise a way to get the tranny to blow up at 30k miles and the transition to Chrysler would be unmistakable.

So Dodge needed a better MPG car, Nissan gives them one and they’re not even selling it in the US?
Wasn’t that the point…

what a gay badge job. i agree about the titan replacement being doomed, the titan itself is a solid, badass truck. screw a ram clone.

Pretty poor rebadge. Iin America they try to go for a more performance oriented, almost badass image, it doesn’t reflect well on most Americans when they see this rebadge job, considering the Versa is about the most dorky looking vehicle out there.

‘Thinly veiled’ is right. That badge looks almost identical to the Nissan logo.

Boo.

All I can say is thank you Daimler-Benz, for screwing up Chrysler so badly that they’re stuck in the hands of Cerebrus now.

TRAZO is a very weird name for South America, specially for Brazil.
The word ATRASO means “Delayed” or “being late” in Portuguese, it also means adversity and out dated.
I’m sure that there will be lots of jokes about it. Somebody is sleeping in their marketing dep.
