There’s a new king of the Nürburgring Nordschleife: a 2010 Dodge Viper ACR reportedly turned in a blistering time of 7:12 on the Green Hell yesterday.
That time is good enough to top the quickest previous lap of 7:14, which was posted by the Lexus LFA Nürburgring-Edition. There are three cars, including a pair of Radical SR8 models the Gumpert Apollo Sport, which have been faster around the ‘ring, but they truly stretch the definition of series production vehicles.
The Viper ACR’s previous best lap of 7:22 (completed in 2008) was bested through the cooperation of three parties. Dodge’s Special Racing Team provided the driver, Texas Dodge dealership Tomball Dodge loaned two showroom-condition 2010 Viper ACRs, and German racing team Mintgen Motorsport/Vulkan Racing handled the cars’ prep work.
SRT also brought along a Dodge Viper ACR-X, the spec racer variant of the ACR, which reportedly posted an impressive time of around 7:03.
As the folks at Lexus learned, a record at the Nürburgring rarely lasts long, but for now the Viper possesses the crown.
