The Dodge Viper might well be one of the crudest vehicles on the road today -- without even the availability of any electronic nannies -- but there is no denying its incredible performance.
The newest ACR model will shed about 40 pounds when compared to the regular SRT10 coupe, through the use of lighter wheels, street-legal Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires and a new two-piece Stoptech brake system.
The Viper ACR will also have an available "Hard Core" package that shaves an additional 40 pounds from the ACR's curb weight by deleting the audio system, underhood sound deadening material and trunk carpeting. Door panels are also replaced with carbon fiber and a lap timer can added where the audio system usually resides.
In addition to just making the Viper lighter, the ACR package also includes an adjustable suspension, a new front anti-roll bar, a removable front splitter and a carbon fiber rear wing with seven different settings. The result of the ACR package -- according to Chrysler -- is 1,000 pounds of downforce at 150 mph and the ability to corner the skidpad at 1.5g.
The ACR reportedly dethroned the the mighty Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 as the unofficial king of Germany's Nurburgring race track. According to an unofficial test, the ACR's extra bite has more than enough on tap to handle the likes of the ZR1 and Nissan's GT-R. The Viper ACR took out the 'Ring in just 7 minutes 22 seconds -- a full 4 seconds ahead of the uber 'Vette.
