2010 Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR [Image update]

12/02/2009, 7:04 PM

By Drew Johnson

Dodge’s current Viper isn’t quite done yet. Although the model is set to wrap up a brief production this year before an all-new Viper bows in late 2011, the Michigan automaker took to the track at Laguna Seca in its street-legal race Viper and took home a course record.

Driven by SRT engineer Chris Winkler, the 2010 Viper SRT10 muscled its way to a 1:33.915 lap, as recorded by an in-vehicle data recording device. The Viper’s track time broke the existing Laguna Seca record by more than 1.1 seconds, Dodge says.

Winkler recaptured the record for Dodge, which held it from 2008 until August when a one-off prototype beat it.

Dodge lightly modified the 2010 Viper SRT10 ACR, which helped enable it to break the Laguna Seca track record. A shorter fifth gear ratio, a new short shifter and some aerodynamic modifications add to the Viper’s performance caliber. Dodge says that the changes were made thanks to lessons learned at Germany’s Nürburgring, where the Viper broke a lap record last year.

Just when you thought there wasn’t anything left that could make you say ‘wow’ all over again. A fitting end to one of the greatest performance cars in American history.

They could offer this car in Pink and to me it wouldn’t take away the bad “ass-ness” of the Viper…. yeah I just said bas ass-ness….

I like the black scheme, but prefer the 09 ACR color schemes…. Even though in red it’s not too different.

love the car the paint job not so much, it might have looked alot better if they had the black where the red is and red where the black is. I would hope to see a ultra high acr trim with some carbon fiber and such.

LOVE the black. The red is just too much.

If I had the money I would have one of these cars in a heartbeat. Nothing says badass like a Viper.

Here you go, Need4SSpeed: http://gallery.viperclub.org/data/500/pinkacr.jpg

I’d go with yellow, myself.

I like the red rims, and the red color scheme EXCEPT for the off-center stripe. I think the black is a bit more subtle and sophisticated, which is a bit weird for a Viper.

Anybody that thinks the interior needs upgrading obviously doesn’t understand what the Viper is all about. I guarantee they’re gonna sissy up the next model with sound deadening, quieter operation, a softer ride, smoother shifting, less aggressive styling, and a richly appointed interior complete with power everything, a nice sound system, and cup holders. They’ll give it an 60-80 lb/ft and hp and jack up the price by about 15 grand and everyone will lick Dodge’s sack in excitement over the new and “improved” Viper because they’ll completely forget what the Viper’s purpose in life on this planet is.

“everyone will lick Dodges sack in excitement”.

EEEWWW. I just threw up in my mouth a little.

Dodge has made a great production race car. It is seriously fast. Just don’t try to use this as a regular car. That is why you can’t compare the Viper to corvette anymore. The Viper has more in common with dedicated track cars than cars designed for the street.

I sure hope they don’t change it. We need more hairy chested, testosterone fueled, purely raw cars.

Right on 928dreamer. I see too many senile old men driving Corvettes at 5 below the limit every week. Corvette is still the best performance bang for your buck… but the base model is just too tame.

Now all they need to do is throw a pair of Turbos on it, make 1000rwhp, and stomp the Nurburgring again. (Hennessey Venom 1000 kit?)

yes well why not just screw the interior altogether; who cares about an extra seat and some cupholders right. let’s all sit on a 5000hp engine and transmission with a steering wheel and paint bucket so we can go an extra 0.0000005 seconds faster. this is the kind of mentality that has slotted american supercars below our european counterparts for decades as they command 2-3 times as much money for about the same performance or less. why? cuz they pay attention to the details and build supercars, not just engines and transmissions wrapped in a plastic box. so shut the garage junkie talk and let our performance cars be at a level where they can be compared legitimately to the ferraris and lambos.

beatus, first off, thats nuts. absolutely insane. second, that has to be a built engine, no stock engine can sustain that much power (or boost) without hand-grenading into itsy-bitsy pieces all over the strip. most likely bored and stroked too…but still really impressive.

This is the best Sports car you can buy for the money. True there are faster cars out there but truly how often are you going to use it. It is RAW POWER. If you are going to spend money on the Lambo or the car with the horse on it you can use the money you saved with going with the Viper and juice it up…. Viper is King Dig hands down!!!!

I see a ton of Corvettes on the road. I see a lot of 911s on the road. Heck, I even see a lot of Lambo Gallardos on the road.

But you know whats one car I never ever see? It’s the Viper. Garbage.
