[pricing update] Dodge Viper ACR

Dodge officially revealed its Viper ACR earlier this year at Los Angeles Auto Show and has now released pricing. Representing the first ACR Viper since 1999, the newest American Club Racer version will shed about 40 pounds through the use of lighter wheels, street-legal Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires and a new two-piece Stoptech brake system.

The Viper ACR will also have an available “Hard Core” package that shaves an addition 40 pounds from the ACR’s curb weight by deleting the audio system, underhood sound deadening material and trunk carpeting. Door panels are also replaced with carbon fiber and a lap timer can added where the audio system usually resides.

In addition to just making the Viper lighter, the ACR package also includes an adjustable suspension, a new front anti-roll bar, a removable front splitter and a carbon fiber rear wing with seven different settings. The result of the ACR package — according to Chrysler — is 1,000 pounds of downforce at 150 mph and the ability to corner the skidpad at 1.5g.

Pricing for the Viper ACR will start under $100,000 — just as Dodge promised — at $98,110.

that removable front splitter would make a big difference it are daily driving this thing.
although 40 lbs isnt that much, the biggest difference where the weight would be noticed is in the wheels. it should sound sick with it’s exhaust.

Something about the Viper speaks to the wide-eyed 7 yr old in me in a way that no corvette will ever be able to. Would I ever buy one? no. But you gotta respect 600hp and no traction control. This is the kind of car you pull up next a porsche with and rev the engine. Odds are 10-1 the porsche driver avoids making eye contact.

sweet car. just like someone above said: this car is calling for the 7yo in all of us, who doesnt bother about consumption, usability, decency and so on.

still, apart from some of those beasts being cruised around closeby california beaches, most of them will just live their lives on the track (where they are the most fun… you can still meet the porsche there… then again, it might be a gt2… would be interesting seeing those two battle!

Cyclone is very right.

The Corvette engineers need to take some lessons from the Viper design team on how to sex-up a car.

Corvette needs to get away from the committe design look.

The Corvette has lost it’s lustful look. A big fat rear ends only remind me of big fat bottoms, but then some men really go for that…

Hot Mustard, you pull up to me in my Porsche you will get a huge thumbs up but no race;)

This is a seriosly fast car and one that can be made even faster with some mods to make it a dedicated track car.

However, this is not a car for the poseur who is worried about comfort. They will never drive this car. As well they shouldn’t because the first time they put the pedal on the right all the way down for more than a few seconds the car will be wrapped around the nearest tree/telephone pole.

This is definitely the sickest looking Viper ever. And if this goes for under 100k then I say Dodge has done this very well indeed. Although It wouldn’t have hurt if Dodge gave it a slight hp increase even though 600hp is probably enough. I love both the Viper and the Corvette, but look out Viper once the Corvette ZR-1 debuts.

e46ne90… I hope you were being sarcastic… to remove 40 pounds from the wheels is like removing 120 pounds off of the body. That is going to be a huge improvement on such a high powered vehicle.

This thing is bad ****in ass. I wish the wing were just a tiny bit shorter(not as wide). It kinda seems to hang over the sides of the car. The wing of a C6-R is a good example, IMO, of a functional wing that’s decent looking.

One thing I find unacceptable, however, is the addition of those little pieces on both the front corners below the fog lamps. It makes it look like something out of a Fast and The Furious movie.
