Dodge increases Hellcat production to accommodate demand

Fiat Chrysler is preparing to build an extra 1,000 Hellcat-powered Chargers and Challengers, according to reports.

Fiat Chrysler has reportedly increased Hellcat output to help accommodate strong demand.

The company suspended new orders two weeks ago, after some shady dealers were accused of taking hundreds of orders and deposits for Hellcat-powered Chargers and Challengers that will likely never arrive.

The company issued a public clarification of its distribution strategy, showing that individual dealers can only sell a maximum of 12 Hellcats per year, however the statement left some buyers annoyed with both their dealer and the automaker.

Production plans have now been increased by 1,000 units, unnamed inside sources have told Jalopnik. The report did not detail the split between Chargers and Challengers.

FCA has not yet publicly outlined a specific production cap or confirmed the latest rumor, but demand for the 707-horsepower pony cars appear to be outpacing initial supplies. Dealers are believed to have ordered more than 9,000 units by mid-March.
