For the second time in as many weeks, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has launched a safety investigation after receiving reports of vehicle door fires. The latest probe focuses on Chevrolet TrailBlazer models from the 2006 and 2007 model years.

The NHTSA is looking into more than 309,000 2006 and 2007 model year Chevy TrailBlazer SUVs after receiving 12 complaints, 10 of which involved a vehicle fire. The complaints allege the fires were sparked by the driver’s side power window switch.

No injuries have been linked to the possible defect. General Motors spokesman Alan Adler told The Detroit News that no TrailBlazers have been lost to the window switch issue, although some owners have reported melted door panels and burned seats.

The launch of the TrailBlazer investigation comes just days after the NHTSA began looking into 2007 model year Toyota Camry and RAV4 vehicles for similar door fire complaints. At least one Toyota has been destroyed as a result of the fires, although no injuries have been reported.

It remains unknown if GM and Toyota sourced their power window switches from the same supplier, but it looks like a distinct possibility at this point.
