Dream; Harmony; New Space - Geely to unveil new MPV at Beijing show

Dream; Harmony; New Space is Geely's theme for this year's Beijing Motor Show and the Chinese automaker will help carry that theme with an all-new MPV. Dubbed the Geely HL MPV, China's newest people mover will share the Geely stage with 17 other production and concept vehicles — including the Geely GT.

As with the GT concept, Geely is keeping tight-lipped about the new HL MPV. Although the Chinese automaker has yet to release the overall dimensions of the new minivan, expect the HL MVP to be about the same size as the Mazda5.

As far as styling goes, the HL MVP looks almost as if the Geely designers made a minivan out of the new Acura TSX. However, the imaged released is just a rendering, so the actual car could look a bit different.

Just back for more images and details after the HL MPV's unveiling next month.

  6. It looks like the Chinese Auto Manufacturers are stepping up to the plate in terms of design… somewhat. Their concepts are alright, but they all have major resemblances to other cars, and even then their production vehicles are nothing but total rip offs.

  9. WTF?? LLN IS IT A MPV OR MVP??? First they call it a MPV then they call it a MVP?? Also MPV, wasn't that the Mazda MPV before Mazda used the same Mazda 5 when they just imported the Ford S-Max and rebadged (with a slight re-design) of the Mazda 5? Looks pretty close to it. So far with all these new Chineese manufacturers I haven't seen anything more then copies of other vehicles… Not very original.

  10. I'd say they're following hyundai's business model. I remember when hyundai wanted to be taken seriously, they started ripping off everyone else. Worked for them, it'll probably work for Geely. Now, as far as their reliablility, that's a different story. Considering the amount of shit that comes out of China, we'll see. Hopefully they'll actually pay the employees and give them a decent work environment.

  11. Exactly hateful83. Hyundai's had a horrible start in the US. They were ugly and unreliable until they learned how to play the game. Now they've got Honda and Toyota pissing their pants because they're stealing their market share. Geely will do the same. I'm sure they're government run in some way since it control's everything. They'll have endless amounts of money to throw at this until they get it right.

  12. Endless amounts of money in the Chinese economy? Oh wait Vroom, you were talking about the government- not the people.

Still, the economies of scale are staggering. If even half of the population can be considered potential car buyers you've got the twice the pool to draw from in relation to North America. Little wonder our domestics are in their like dirty shirts as well.

  14. Yeap, nice clone of the Odyssey which is actually not a bad thing if it's copied exactly down to the safety level. But I doubt it…

  16. Nobody cares what the gooch-chewers on this site think. 99.99% of people in the car market are not enthusiasts and wouldn't know a Geely from a Cleveland steamer.

With the coming recession and out-of-control cost of living, more and more people will let finances dictate what they drive. And cheap cars from China will sell, because money is the bottom line for most.

  19. That what you get get when you cross Odyssey front with Kia's ass. Since it will be painted wit lead and wheels will fall off on alternative turns it will be a great vehicle for local market.

  20. Not bad, considering the design elements are borrowed, but at least it is not a "rebadge" job with a lawsuit to follow. Now work on the quality. And enough with the lead joke already. Like it or not, Chinese and Indian car companies aren't going anywhere. Once upon a time, Made in Germany and Made in Japan products were considered junk too!

  21. I agree with sharpie, at least it is not a direct rip-off of another car. Even though it looks like other cars, it isn't blatantly obvious.

  22. Those head lamps are very much like a Honda Civic for me, and the van's front bumper is too huge that it rather looks ugly.

  25. 'CaCaLover', hates the fact that the Chinese are coming out with designs that make his 57 Bel Air look as old as he is.

Poor, old man … life has passed you by long ago … don't be jealous over that which you cannot control.
