16,900 deaths from drunk driving in 1 year. So why do we hear more protests about the 2600 soldiers killed in Iraq? I'm not saying that their loss is not tragic, but is it somehow less tragic that 8 times as many are killed in 1 year here at home? Plus ALL of those soldiers volunteered and knew what they were getting into. How many people watch their kids drive off and think "Hmmm, maybe today is the day that some drunk kills her".

There ar so many fatalities due to drinking and driving, I would know my mother has nearly died because of drinking and driving. Most of the times I have been in the car with her and it was not pretty. I have lost a friend due to a drunk driver she was only 10 years old, and as it always turns out the drunk driver was put in jail, but got away with 1 thing my best friends life.

the cops worry so much about speeding.... if they were erally concerned about motorists safety they would be parked outside of the bars on a friday night instead of hiding out under a bridge making some money for their city.

What's sad is how often a drunk driver survives after crashing into others at high speed and killing them. There was a big case here in Michigan last summer where a guy was so drunk, the doctors couldn't understand why he wasn't in a coma. And he was driving, 70mph in a left turn lane in his yukon denali and didn't even hit the brakes before he obliterated an accord with a mother and hew two children. He suffereed mild neck injuries. He's in jail now, I think for most of the rest of his life.

Anyway, I know a number of people who are far too accepting of driving after a few drinks. So far I don't know anyone who's screwed up in those regards, but it makes me quite uncomfortable. It also makes me uncomfortable how many people depend on alcohol for a good time.

Sadly the people who deserve the Darwin Award often take innocent people with them on their rush to win the ultimate prize.

Andre; the number used to be a lot higher. Like smoking, some people seem to be getting a clue, but others clearly deserve this Award.

I've seen one of my friends drive around 4 of his friends while drunk and stoned to hell. Some people just don't get it.

though you would hope there would be someone around to stop you from doing something so idiotic...

3 of my high school friends died last year as a result of drunk driving. those results are very believable.

i still cant comprehend WHY people think its ok to drink and drive!

16,972 in one year. I dunno, I never seemed to believe these statistics. They all seem so exagerated. What do you guys think?
