A Dubai resident is facing serious criminal charges after leading police on a high-speed chase in a car that was burning jet fuel.

The car caught the police's attention because it was making an unusually loud noise late at night. When the sirens were turned on the driver quickly fled and trespassed on private property in order to hide the car.

After a long search police officers managed to track down both the car and the driver. When asked why - and how - he was going so fast he explained that the car was running on jet fuel.

"After our men checked the car, they found that it was fitted with a computer system, another engine and a jet fuel tank plus extra cylinders and other additions. Its driver said he used jet fuel to increase its speed and admitted that the jet fuel and the additions were provided by a car maintenance shop," said Dubai traffic police chief major general Mohammed Al Zafin in an interview with Emirates 24|7.

For better or worse the police did not specify what kind of car was being driven but it reportedly hit speeds of up to 217 miles per hour. The driver said that the modifications cost him about 210,000 dirhams, which converts to over $57,000.
