E-Class facelift in 2006, new model in 2009, “AMG offensive”

German car magazine Auto Motor und Sport has published an overview of Mercedes‘ future plans regarding its E-Class luxury sedan. The report says a facelifted model will arrive in 2006. The updated car will address some of the quality problems that have been plaguing the sedan since its launch in 2003. An all-new E-Class, however, won’t debut for a few years. The E-Class successor will likely be sold as a 2009 model, and will feature an all-new interior and exterior. (Pictured right is a computer rendering of the car). Some aspects of the new S-Class will be handed down to the ‘09 E-Class, while others will not. For example, the Active Body Control system is expected to remain exclusive to more expensive models. Instead, the new E-Class will ride on more traditional steel or air springs. The 2009 E-Class will shed its round eye-like headlamps in favor of teardrop style lights. Like many recent Mercedes models, the next E-Class will be less conservative, and instead take on a more aggressive appearance. Auto Motor und Sport also confirms Mercedes’ plan for a “large AMG offensive.” The magazine says to expect 515 horsepower E63 and CLS 63 models, along with a de-tuned 482 horsepower CLK 63. Looking forward to the new E63 AMG but will have to buy an E55 cannot wait the 3 years. Any idea on changes to the 07 model. Any changes in engine or styling?

Thanks Nick
