eam3 -- When the 928 came out many Porschephiles said it was not a true Porsche either.

In 20 years perceptions change a lot. The new 928 is going to come out and it will be awesome. It will be based on teh Panamerica sedan. Whihj of those two will be a true Porsche and which one will not?

There is no question that the Cayenne is a nice SUV. But the way I see Porsche is not as an SUV builder, but rather a builder of some of the world's best sports cars. Before you lump me with the 911 fanbois who think anything other than a 911 isn't a Porsche, I've owned a 944 and a 968 and thought they were fantastic cars. One of my all time dream cars is a 928GTS but despite how nice the Picayunne may be, in my eyes it will never, EVER, be a true Porsche.

Yes everyone, let's wait and see what the official release pictures look like, and lets not go by some overly dark bullshit promo pics like the ones above, or the disguised camo pics on the car and drive site.

peter,
you buy a Cayenne after you drive one!
I've driven faster vehicles, but nothing blew my mind more than stepping on the gas the first time in a Cayenne Turbo. Your brain can't get around how that much mass can move so effortlessly.
As for the trite "Porsche should only build sports cars" crowd, grow up. Porsche is a business. Because of the Cayenne, they are now looking at long range stability, growth, and are now in a position to possibly buy VW.
Whinings from the "traditionalist" crowd don't pay the bills.

I know the Cayenne is very sucessfull, which only proves the fact that it's good I'm not the decisionmaker at Porsche.

I don't think people buy Cayennes because they have opened their eyes, I think people buy Cayennes with their genitals.

^ do you have any idea how successfull they are with the Cayenne? NO.
They can't survive on just the 911. Everytime they come out with a new model, 944/951/968, 928,boxster,cayenne, panamera, etc. People always badmouth them. Sorry but the person making the decisions on what to produce is doing a great job. The Cayenne didn't do well when it was introduced, but now it's a great success after people opened their eyes.

Nice minivan, Porsche. Get back to building real Porsches and let the others fight for the minivan market (or glorified SUV, whatever the marketing gurus say is in style this week).

Cool xenons.

Are they still going to charge you $1800 for them as an option on a $60K plus car. My girlfriends Jetta GLI has them standard.

Porsches are great, but they charge too much for options. They also have major parts optional that should be standard.

I had a second look at these pictures in Photoshop, and as Cooper points out, you can manipulate the pictures for a better view. And the car looks quite cool, despite the fact that I find the vast majority of these SUV's and 4X4's utterly useless.

I think the headlamps look like they've been lifted off of the new Infiniti cars.

From these images, I'm given the impression that the thing looks better, but then I'm quickly reminded of how disgusting it is. As for it being a sleeper, I guess so, in the same sort of way that The Kingpin is sleeper. He looks like just another gigantic fat guy, until you realize he's actually solid muscle. A bit deceptive, perhaps, but hardly inconspicuous.

autonutt,
Skipping 2007 modelyear...producing last batch of mostly Titanium editions. 2008 model comes out in mid next year. There will be a preview for Porsche employees in Cabo, Mexico this coming February. Only a facelift...But they will be redesigning it in 2009 I believe it was.

I thought the reason Porsche wasn't producing a 2007 model was to prepare for an all-new Cayenne.. this is merely a facelift! And not one done by a top surgeon, I might add.. I thought they'd at least lose the '90s Boxster teardropesque headlights for another interpretation of Porsche's oval lamps!

Porsche manufactures some fine "looking" vehicles...the Cayenne has never been one of them, and by the looks of matters, still isn't.

Ricardo Head: We're pretty sure those photos are slightly edited to remove camo. Let's wait to see the real thing.

I've seen pics of the rear on another site. Pretty much defines "butt-ugly" if you ask me. If it's the final version, it looks really sleepy - not sporty at all. The Cayenne looks generally like a sleeper, anyway.

The Ford Edge has a nicer ass.
