SEMA: Hummer H2 Safari, H3R

10/29/2007, 1:43 PM

By Drew Johnson

General Motors has already released several images of vehicles it will be showing at SEMA this week, and it appears that GM has plenty more in store. The automaker has just released images of two Hummer models that it will be displaying in Las Vegas: the Hummer H2 Safari and the Hummer H3R.

The Hummer H2 Safari is designed to offer a unique, open-air experience “to those who want to experience as much of the outdoors as possible.” The custom H2 is painted in a matte olive finish — which is designed to help the SUV blend in with nature — and features a retractable canvas roof panel.

Other highlights of the Hummer H2 Safari include 20-inch wheels, a heavy-duty suspension with a two inch lift, Euro-style smoked light lenses with LED lighting, removable rear windows and a 6.2L V8 with 393 horsepower.

The Hummer H3R was inspired by Hummer’s off-road racing team and brings performance to the street. Based on the standard H3, GM has equipped the show truck with the same 505 horsepower 7.0L V8 found in the Corvette Z06. The H3R also features a laundry list of other modifications, including 20 inch tires — with 35-inch off-road tires — second-row seats delete, HID headlamps and an upgraded suspension and brakes.

Despite the impressive performance offered by the H3R, GM says it has no plans to put the Crovette’s LS7 in an H3 anytime soon.

SEMA has been filled, and I mean FILLED, with H2’s since back in 2004.

Yawn.

” offer a unique, open-air experience “to those who want to experience as much of the outdoors as possible.” Yeah, while destroying the environment.

YEAH AND TOYOTA JUST RELEASED 17 MORE VARIATIONS OF ITS GAZ GUZZLER ENVIORNMENT DESTROYERS BUT HEY ITS TOYOTA ITS ONLY BAD FOR GM TO DO IT. NOT TO MENTION MERCEDES PORSCHE AND BMW WITH THEIR NEW LARGE LAND DESTROYERS, BUT HEY ITS ONLY BAD IF GM DOES IT.
.
anyways i personally hate the h2 in a bad way, but i love the hell out of the h3 especially the setup of the one above, there is no vehicle on the planet this side of a wragler that can out 4×4 that beast.

I do like the matte olive paint. That’s cool. SEMA has shown a lot of vehicles in the past few years with matte finishes. I know BMW has been goofing around with it too. Actually saw a Z4 coupe in town a few years ago (before it went into production actually) with the matte silver. Looked awesome. Guess you can’t run it through a car wash though.

I like the new H2 interior too. Nice seats.

H2 Safari: “for those who want to experience as much of the outdoors as possible”. But mostly for those who want to LOOK like they’re going to experience as much of the outdoors as possible. Holy crap, this is ridiculous.

If I was going to go off-roading somewhere, it sure wouldn’t be in my pristine $60K monster truck that I was scared to death of scratching. It’d be in an old truck in really good mechanical condition that I didn’t mind if it got dirty or scratched.

But hey—I guess I can’t blame the car makers for building these things; after all, they’re in business to make a profit. If we keep buying these ridiculous vehicles, I can’t fault ‘em for building ‘em!

The H2 isn’t forgotten they still sell decently. Isnt GM coming out with an H2 with the 4.5 Liter diesel? You people who display hatred towards a vehicle have too much time to spare. Hey if you don’t like them then don’t look at them, buy them, discuss them. If you like them then save your pennies and buy one. Its no worse then a Range Rover and is more reliable to boot. What about a H2 that runs on CNG? Would you hate that? It would burn as clean as a Civic. But because it’s Hummer, GM, American, etc… your narrow mindedness and homoliberialousis kicks in and common sense goes bye-bye.

1. There is a lot of GM press releases so it is of course posted on LLN. It’s not just LLN by the way, go to any other site and you will see them there. Don’t worry, when SEMA actually BEGINS, you will see a lot of Toy crap such as a tricked out Tundra super mega cab. Also, tomorrow there will probably be news of the Aussie RAV4 that Toy just recalled.

2. Stop with the gas guzzling comments. GM makes Hummers to be used off-road. It is not their fault that Americans buy them as every day vehicles. Also, why aren’t you picking on Toy for making vehicles like the monster-sized Tundra and Land Cruiser (and its clone, the GX470)

Deanster Homoliberialousis is a frightning disease wrecking havoc on our citizens. It attacks the thought process and logic making parts of the brain which leaves the victim in a clueless state of stupidity. Im contacting Wikipedia.com to have them enter it into the website hehe.

A Hummer without a Diesel is like an F-22 without missiles…utterly useless. Come one, GM, let’s see a Diesel option in there!

Scott: good point on the old truck.
Rompn4x: I have no problem with the existence of hummers ( I linke the way they’re a kind of “****-off” to all the Prii and miatas.) I just wouldn’t want to commute in one.
