Ok here’s what I think. The Koreans are coming, BIG TIME.
And if anything the auto industry is all the better for it. Im sick of the overated german brands that have ZERO design flair. Mercedes-Yawn, BMW-Yawn and Audi-Zzzzzz!

So what if the new Genesis looks a little copied. It still looks a heck of a lot better than the competition out there. I hope Hyundai doesnt get cold feet and is faithful to the sketches. The Asian brands are giving the rest a headche.
People who laugh at the Korean and Japanese are just prejudiced in their outlook. Get over it.

so c’mon Hyundai give em hell!

^I chose to buy my Tiburon at a greater cost to myself, even though I work at a GM dealership and could have gotten a grand or two knocked off of a Cobalt. After owning two Hyundais so far, they’re great vehicles.

The I-nomenclature will likely not be here in the US. And Camry? Some styling cues yes, but you can look at this and tell them apart. Hyundai definitely takes styling cues from other cars (new Elantra cued somewhat from Corolla, Tiburon cued somewhat from Porsche IMO), but I guess they figure, why not take a hint from the stuff that is selling well (Accord, Corolla) and add their own flares?

Wow…so many ignorant people registered here. Mainly redneck hicks and 16 year old boys that were weaned off of need for speed and fast and the furious.
I think this is a great concept and hope the production version looks identical to this. And as for “being behind” everyone else, they pioneered the 10 year waranty, which was better than anyone else’s at the time..

and I would STILL buy a korean car over a non 4G63 Mitsubishi and any american fwd sedan.

“The new nomenclature will be applied only to future vehicles that are sold in Europe. It will not immediately replace the names of current models.”

Although Hyundai will use suffixes for niche models, e.g. CW for a crossover wagon, but there could be problems if they wanted to rename every model when it is replaced, since they sometimes have two models at different ends of the same segment.

i10=A-segment currently the Atos
i20=B-segment currently both the Getz (Yaris-sized) and Accent (207/Corsa-sized)
i30=C-segment new hatch based on the Elantra sedan. i30 CW would be the Tucson replacement.
i40=D-segment probably the Sonata, at the upper limit of the D-segment. i40 CW wold be the Santa Fe
i50=E-segment the Grandeur/Azera. i50 CW would be the Veracruz if it were renamed.

If the new rwd model is significantly larger than the Azera it will be in the F-segment, possibly i60 in Europe (although Hyundai has not publicly extened the new naming system that far). The current swb fwd Equus (based on the old Mitsubishi Proudia) is about this size (close to the European swb S 350), but the rwd model may be smaller, similar in size to the Infiniti M45 or BMW 5-series (and the fwd Grandeur/Azera).

Will never sell. Unless Hyundai make it like the concept. Which they won’t do. BMW, you’re safe…for now. Looks like a mixture of new Mondeo, the mazda 6 with a hint of Lexus.

you know why theyre rising? because Hyundai is the only asian carmaker trying to keep up with the American/European brands rather than their local competitors. Sounds like a better strategy to me.

Well, perhaps the alphanumeric designation was be suitable in markets outside the US, however, with the entire North American Hyundai line-up using actual names for their vehicles, a name like i50 would stick out like a sore thumb. I think the name “Genesis” would be more suitable for this sedan. It would blend in better with other Hyundai nameplates like Azera, Sonata, Santa Fe, VeraCruz, Elantra, Tiburon, and etc.
