From the uninformed to the "intelligent": Saab 9-3 = Cadillac BLS, but how could I expect you to know about something going on outside your own continent. Opel Omega = Cadillac Catera, perhaps your memory doesn't stretch as far back as 2003. Chevrolet, well you've answered that yourself, and a much different sound system does not a quality car make.

Kaptain, kaptain, I was playing with you. these are the comments we get here. I have a file with all the negative comments that keep getting repeated on GM subjects even if there is no info on the subject yet. of course I cannot see thru the windshield.

Hey, I found the file:

Comment by S-60-driver: Little better but has the boring, generic look to it. Try again, GM!

Comment by 1952 MG TD: I'm up for someone taking a photo of me as I leak, looks a bit like my butthole after I have been reamed by deantj

Comment by bun_a_gm: It's hideous. Lose the GM badge, Please. GM is shit. FACE IT. The Japanese have this market. Period.

Comment by leozug: wow. they've done a really good job of being absolutly boring and unimaginative. good work. next…all i have to say is, "another boring, cookie cutter, XXXXXX . Whooptie-Freaking-Doo."

Comment by BrokenCadillac: Looks like GM's truck designers took a crack at a sedan… Two thumbs way down.

Comment by YourNameHere: zZzZzZzZ that gotta do better then that if they want ppl to pay attention to it to expand…its ugly. just plain ugly. not even interesting, attention getting, a special kinda person, ugly. those kinda cars still sell…this is just plain ugly
Comment by GarbageMotorsCo: The only thing this is going to "crush" is your GM "faithfuls" hearts when this thing comes to market and it's biggest customer is Avis Rental Car.
Comment by LamborghiniZ: GM does make inferior products, thats why the Malibu and G6 are PATHETIC competitors to the Accord, Camry, Altima, Mazda 6, etc. This isn't "anti-fanboy" anything, I'm a realist, and I'm being realistic here when I say the Malibu hasn't ever been, and I doubt will be, any competition for the best in the segment.
Comment by YourNameHere: i will laugh at anyone that pays sticker for one of these….hell i will laugh at anyone that pays more then 3,000 under sticker

Thank you, A4 and Stadt. Will ppl stop saying that the Solstice is a rebadged Opel GT? Even yahoo made it clear that it was the other way around way back when. Before either were released they said that Solstice would be redadged as the new Opel GT going back to it's roots when it used to be a rebadged 'vette.

"This car looks ugly as usual from GM. The grill is large and obtrusive. The exhaust tips in the back look large which makes looks good. The taillights look ugly. I would rather buy a Toyota Camry or a Honda Accord. "
all matters of opinion. to me, the Camry and Accord are mundane and boring, and the G8 is hot.

the Holden Commadore is a great car. my fingers are crossed, hoping that they come with a 6speed manual, unlike the automatic-manuals on the Grand Prix GTP.

"Interior looks like crap. Poor quality plastic, hard surfaces. If you look real close thru the windshield you can see how bad it really is. And listen to the audo system. Nowhere near as good as a BMW. And the handling sucks.

Where are all the naysayers? I would posts them but I cannot find the file" - Comment by chris2, posted on February5 at 10:51 pm
.
Because anyone with the intellectual capacity of a parsnip can figure all that through the windshield via these blurry pics. Whatever. You've done more to flush your own credibility down the toilet than anyone else ever could have hoped. On the plus side, you're the winner of this thread's asshat award: you haven't seen the G8 in person -- much less driven it -- and you already *know* exactly what kind of machine this is. Congratulations.

Your boundless black-hole stupidity is beyond my ability to describe in it's entirety.

Ahh the uninformed trying to be intelligent. There are only two vehicles at Cadillac here in the states that share architectures with anything else and that is the Slade and no one seems to care about that and the DTS which is shared currently with the Lucerne. CTS/STS/SRX are all on Sigma which is a Cadillac only archtecture at this time. Saab?, Opel? Chevrolet? Ok the Slade is a Chevrolet but the Cadillac does have a much different sound system.

Again, the uninformed. Did you know the Camry and ES also share architecture the same way GM does? Accord/Camry? Nissan/Renault/Infiniti? Can you believe that every manufactuer does this? How stupid can they get? No, they are smart because if they did not they would be out of business (of course low volume, high priced OEMS do not do as much, but then they charge for it and the market is small).

back to ironpony... the Opel GT was taken from the Solstice. No need to think america rips off everyone else, "germany" rebadged the solstice for their european markets, not the other way around. This car looks badass besides altezza taillights. Those can easily be fixed though.

If there where Holdens (or Opels) sold in America, then I would have a problem with "badge engineering". But they aren't, what is the problem? God forbid vehicles share platforms, as many do.

The interior in this thing leaves the 300C for dead. The Australian market is more demanding than the American, this is the #1 car in the country and if it's interior was sub-par like the 300 it would simply die. Of course that means nothing if Pontiac change the interior, but if they leave it largely the same like they did with the GTO then the car will have a better interior than current Cadillacs (even Lutz himself admitted this a while ago), forget about Chryslers.

Are the North American GM divisions actually separate companies with separate management and so on? That would be a highly inefficient way to sell the same products with different badges, headlights and electronic gimmickry.

I personally detest badge engineering. It seems insulting to the customer to try to associate the same vehicles with different brand values by changing design details. GM and Ford seem to feel that the customer is stupid enough to pay more for a brand name, even when the product is the same under the skin and entertainment system as an inferior model. Witness the Lincoln Navigator and Cadillac Escalade.

Don't they realise that when Cadillacs are so obviously Saabs, Opels and Chevrolets with detail changes, that the brand's value is being decimated. This is a brand that used to be mentioned in the same breath as Mercedes-Benz and Rolls Royce.

The same thing happened in Britain in the 70's when the governement owned Austin-Rover started acquiring all the British manufacturers. Soon Triumphs, Rovers, Wolseleys Rileys and Austins were all the same thing, later MG's became rebadged Rovers. Not long afterwards there were no Triumphs, Rileys, Wolsesleys, Austins or MG's. Even Rover never recovered fully and after being subsidised by the government for years while selling rebadged Hondas it too has gone - a thoroughly deserved demise for a brand that had lost its identity.

If I can delete the hood scoops and they offer a lip-type rear spoiler (I'm not big on wing-type spoilers), I'll buy it.

And I still think they should keep the Grand Prix name.

@ironpony42:

The Solstice was not designed in Germany, and it's not imported from Germany either. Don't know what you're talking about. Identity crisis at Pontiac, sure, but the Solstice is [mostly] American.

And besides, from what's been reported, they're just trying to get this G8 to market asap. Supposedly it will be built at the Grand Prix plant in Canada and get a facelift a few years down the road.

^ ^ Lol @ bun_a_gm, has its 300C competitor?? 300c is more of on the luxury side. G8 is on the sporty/performance side. Yeah, 300c has a performace stuff too, but still.

Id say G8 is competing with a Charger R/T.

Its a Holden with some different bumpers. Definately a HUGE step in the right direction but NOT a new car, just a rebadged holden. It's unfortunate the the front bumper resembles that of the G6.

Nevertheless, I look forward to seeing more from this car. GM has its 300C competitor. Now let's wait and see how it does.

Interior looks like crap. Poor quality plastic, hard surfaces. If you look real close thru the windshield you can see how bad it really is. And listen to the audo system. Nowhere near as good as a BMW. And the handling sucks.

The last GTO that came over was crucified because the styling was too bland. And the GTO lovers cried because it did not have hood ports. That is why this one has them. Hopefully they are functional and add HP.

Where are all the naysayers? I would posts them but I cannot find the file:)

I wish they would just announce the damn details already. The only Commodore reviews I can find on the net are from Australia. With their weird "killowats" of power and "NeutonMeters" of torque. Give me some real numbers please.

Imported or not this car is still owned and designed by GM. I think it looks great and will give Pontiac a much needed boost.

The only redeeming factors, V8, RWD, Manual box. Other than that, I don't like it. Why? It's 'f'in ugly. I'll wait for the official photos to come out, and I'll call it ugly again. Pontiac seems like a company with an identity crisis. The "excitement" division has to import every model and slap a badge on it. Solstice- Germany, GTO- Australia, G8- Australia. Why not design a damn car yourself? Oh, cause when they tried, they created the Aztek. If this is the best they can do, I say SHUT HER DOWN! Maybe one less division will help stop the bleeding at GM.
