Early look: Renault Koleos

02/11/2008, 2:08 PM

By Drew Johnson

Renault has released images of its Koleos ahead of the SUV’s Geneva Motor Show debut next month. The Koleos is based on the Koleos concept that first debuted at the 2006 Paris Motor Show and uses the same architecture that underpins the Nissan Xtrail.

The Koleos will use the same suspension setup as found in the Xtrail as well as the Nissan’s pair of engines — a 2.0L diesel and a 2.5L gasoline four.

The Koleos will employ an all-wheel drive system that normally routes 100% of the SUV’s power to the front wheels, but can send as much as 50% to the rear wheels if the system detects slippage.

The Koleos will also feature a stylish and functional interior. Interior appointments will include a navigation system, automatic windshield wipers and a tire pressure monitoring system.

Check back for more details and images after the Koleos’ debut next month.

Looks a lot better than an X-Trail..although the shape is reminiscent of a Lexus or even the Kia.

It looks tinny and tippy. I like Renaults, but what a misfire.

It looks quite a bit smaller than an X-trail.

Woooow, I know that GIUGIK1 is wearing some bottle-like glasses…. I reckon the interior doesn’t look outrageous, but it does look chinese only 5%-10% which is acceptable if we think that Renault is not actualy a luxury brand, at least mainly. What I don’t like mainly is the tail lights,… just too much BMW and Audi style there! BTW, look at the Corvette interior, be it C5 or C6, that’s looking like chinese stuff indeed!

I agree with golf4me: I see a lot of the Hyundai Tucson in this vehicle’s profile. If I didn’t know any better, I would have thought that this was a rebadged Tucson instead of a platform mate to the Nissan Rogue/Qashqai/X-trail. The front and rear styling isn’t bad and the interior looks okay, but the Hyundai-esque profile kind of lowers its appeal.
