New details have surfaced on Ford's next-generation Mustang pony car, including a confirmed EcoBoost engine and an independent rear suspension.

The internet rumor mill has been abuzz with speculation about the next-generation Mustang for several months now, but Ford has largely kept its mouth shut on the topic. However, someone at the Blue Oval apparently got bitten by the chatter bug and spilled the beans about the 2015 Mustang to Autoweek news editor Greg Migliore.

According to Migliore, an unnamed Ford executive confirmed that the next-generation Mustang will come with a down-sized EcoBoost V6, internally known as "Nano". No word on the size or output of the turbocharged Nano engine, but it is presumed it would at least match the 305 horsepower offered by the current Mustang's V6 engine.

As previous spy shots have already indicated, the 2015 Mustang will also arrive with an independent rear suspension, eschewing the current car's live axle. Ford is looking to make the next iteration of Mustang a global vehicle, with IRS viewed as a must have if the car is to succeed in mature markets like Europe.

No launch date has yet been revealed for the next Ford Mustang, but the pony car will more than likely debut sometime during 2014.
