Danish company ECOmove has taken a different approach to its unusual design, offering customers a range of customization options, reports Gizmodo. "We have chosen to use alternative light weight materials and the QBEAK is equipped with a range of sustainable, competitive features such as in-wheel motors, a unique chassis platform with room for flexible battery modules and a communication system based on a smartphone," said ECOmove CEO Mogens Løkke.
Customers can choose from a range of interior and exterior options, anything from 1 to 6 seats with the ability to redesign the vehicle and change colors at any time by picking up and interchanging panels and parts. The parts themselves are said to be made from non-corrosive materials that can absorb minor collisions, while also being recylcable and easily replaced.
The car is aimed at city slickers with a range of 186 miles on a charge, and a top speed of just over 74 miles per hour. Drive is delivered through in-wheel motors, opening up the chassis platform to a flexible battery module arrangement. Unsurprisingly, its communication system is centered on the power of an owner's smartphone. It weighs in at just 881 lbs, which helps to keep its total cost of ownership at less than half of what a standard small car would cost.
The ECOmove QBEAK has already picked up a 2012 European Electric Vehicles Early Stage Investment Opportunity Award from the Frost & Sullivan-company, suggesting that the overall concept may have real-world design and practical appeal.
