Which of today’s cars will the future bless and make collectibles? Automotive restoration expert David Grainger attempts to answer this question. Grainger picks include the Plymouth Prowler, special edition Vipers and Viper GTS-Rs, Corvette Z06, and Ford Thunderbird. These are the obvious choices, but Grainger’s list goes on, including: Chrysler ’s new and rather outrageous line of SRT cars, the Mustang Shelby GT 500, and the Mercedes CLK DTM AMG coupe. When it comes to Japanese cars, Grainger believes we’ll see some Japanese cars reach collector status in the next 30 years. “Japanese cars have never really reached collector status. About the most collectible is the Datsun 240Z, and even a really good example is still not much money.” But the younger generation’s “obvious enthusiasm for Japanese cars” will change that. Possible collectibles include the Mitsubishi 3000 GT, Toyota Supra twin Turbo, and the Subaru WRX STi.
