they should have really restructured its business plan to a niche, diesel only automaker, pioneering the diesel passenger car market and using their infinite expertise as a selling point.

Isuzu made decent enough trucks – good enough for Honda to rebadge a Rodeo as a Passport – but they were very undermarketed. I wish they’d sold the Amigo in Canada – gimme mine with the 3.2 V6, 5-speed tranny and 4WD.

They sure sucked to work on, though – I was a mechanic at a Saturn/Saab/Isuzu dealership through most of the 90’s.

I loved my Isuzu Trooper II, 90hp and that thing could climb the crap out of anything, took mountain roads like a champ and survived to 230,000 miles before I sold it to some Apache Indians for $600. A great truck, it really held up under pressure.

The first generation Isuzu Impulse (Piazza outside North America, I think) was actually a pretty cool car. The original Isuzu Trooper also.

Isuzu is alright… they had some good vehicles. My fiancee has a ‘99 Amigo. 2-door RWD SUV with a GM 4-banger and a 5-speed tranny… it’s nice for getting around town, hauling groceries and her art supplies and the like… bigger stuff that just won’t fit in my Cobalt. It does well in bad weather… is good on gas… not too big, not too small… I’d buy another one if they still made ‘em.

isuzu sucks! the only good thing they made is the vehicross! it was one of the best sport suvs that was actually really reliable.
