Hey in Australia it is called the Focus XR5 and its a 4wd 5 cylinder turbo and tests against the WRX say it is cheaper and better- more torque down low.Recarro seats std too!!

i live in europe and own a focus st,it’s fast and agile better than golf gti{dsg}/opal astra and renault megane doesn’t like turns.I test drove all of these prior to buying mine,just check 0-60 figures.fastest hot hatch for money.

The Euro Focus is shares its underpinnings with the Volvo S40/V40 and Mazda 3, so it is much larger than the old Focus sold in the US.

I don’t like the current Focus, even though it is popular here.

The ST is ok, the Opel Astra OPC (240 hp) is better, but the Golf GTi with the DSG box is best. Renault Megane Sport beats the ST, or so I read.

I’m just very tired of not being interested in most $30k and under cars for sale in the USA.

GM is doing some good things. Dodge is too but the Charger is really big and has no manual transmission. Ford…?

I saw a black european Focus ST on a cross road to Interstate 75 just north of Daimler-Chrysler’s world headquarters not even 4 weeks ago. As a current SVTF owner I would love to dream about owning a 2.5T ST, but I doubt they are bringing it over here for 2 model years with a Focus revamp on both sides of the Atlantic slated for 2009.

I hope if the Euro Focus ever does come over to the US, Ford ditches the hatchbacks for a real 2 door coupe. Those hatchbacks (US and Euro verisons) are hideous. I might would actually consider getting a 2 door coupe if they looked good enough and had decent power.

Go prfice out a Mazda3s and a Focus ST – with the same equipment they price out exactly the same – to the penny. then Ford slaps on a $3000 rebate. If Ford had the new platform in the US, maybe they wouldn’t need the rebates.

BTW the Mazda has no rebate of cut rate financing, and still sells for close to sticker 3 years after launch….

Fords pattern is to keep a platform for 10 years before replacement, so 2009 on the C1 platform seems right

By the time the modifications to bumpers (fenders) and bodywork have been made to meet ridiculous US crash safety legislation, the car look just as stupid as the US version of the old Focus, which was several inches longer than the Euro car and ruined the original shape of the car.

Having driven an new ST, they are disappointing and boring. The old RS Focus was a much more entertaining drive despite being less powerful, but then compared to the SVT, which is the best you guys got (which really was a sorry excuse for a hot hatch!), i suppose the new ST isnt bad. A 4WD 300+bhp Euro Focus is rumoured to be back on the drawing after Ford apparently canned it 18 months ago.

But if you want a decent European hot hatch, get a VW Golf GTi 30th Anni. edition.

Yes that’s the ST with Visios wheels and all.

As for the rear end, you need to see it in the flesh… it is a bit awkward but acceptale and suits the car… I hope the new Ford design language is transported into the Focus RS Mk 2 if they make one an eventually the Mk 3 Focus when it rolls around.

Good luck America – this car is well worth having, in ST form or a regular hatch it’s capable and handles very well – if not as edgy as the older Focus, it’s more refined and just as forgiving.

We currently have an ’03 SVT Focus five door. It replaced our 98.5 SVT Contour. We have really enjoyed both cars and are happy to say that they have been very reliable vehicles.

I just hope that the new Euro ST five door will be available next year when we will again be ready to buy a new car.

If not, the Honda Civic Si sedan will likely be what we get next.

As Fatstrat mentions, Ford COULD just go ahead with an All Wheel Drive transmission and uprate the horsepower to compete with the WRX and Evo market. As an added plus, they can then homologate their WRC history.

Doing that, Ford could make a high priced Focus justified in a sport price bracket.

I know someone that worked for ford doing mule testing and when I asked about the new focus and mentioned the euro focus, he said the new US one’s design was close..

I think the problem with bringing it to the US is that it is more expensive to build with higher materials (and quality) that the US spec model and would price it self out of the market. The European markets can bear a much higher price for a premium small car than the US can. Plus it is larger that the US spec Focus and might be too close to the Fusion, in price as well.

Praying to GOD that this is the focus ST. There is A HUGE market for hot hatches in the U.S. and we are missing out. Ford needs to get the clue. After the Axe on the Svt Focus, this could make a nice make-up gift

I am european and I see lots of focus here. That one is surely a ST version.225hp, volvo 5 cilinder turbo engine but it´s not AWD, it´s a FWD with an excellent handling. And it´s made in Genk, Belgium. Not UK!!

It would be intelligent of them to bring over the european Focus models. This includes the inline-five turbo.

An AWD Cosworth turbo model in the USA would also be a nice plus, but just getting a current model would be a huge step in the right direction.

Maybe I should have clarified, I was referring to the U.S. Focus. It’s obvious this one will not be brought to the U.S. I know this is a different car!

The American MFG’s continue to make the same mistakes, and just keep retooling the same car for decades.. ughh the Focus is going to end up just like the Taurus, it hasn’t changed much at all since 1999. This is why they get smoked by Honda and Toyota, the current platform Camry was still pretty new, and BAM the 2007 is out and taking names. Even with the Accord’s minor tailight and grill updates it’s still lightyears ahead of Ford.

I had heard that it was very expensive to re-tool their factories here producing US Focuses back in 2002, since 2000 and 2001 Focuses had many many recalls and TSB’s, that Ford US probably didn’t want to spend even more money converting them to make cars on the Mazda 3/S40 platform. (it was probably also partly diciplinary as well.)

Too bad too, because the Euro Focus looks very nice, and that platform and the 2.3l 4 are excellent. The Focus ST (I think?) with AWD and turbo Volvo T5 is completely awesome.

I bet we’re not going to get this Focus, but maybe this is a hint that the next generation Focus will still be on the Euro Focus platform, and they’re getting test data here now in perperation for that new generation around 2008 or so.
