REPORT: Toyota considering GM linkup

Toyota Motor Corp. is considering making a bid to link with General Motors, according to a report in BusinessWeek magazine. The move would be aimed at trumping a proposed alliance between GM and Renault-Nissan.

The magazine reported Saturday that Toyota “is considering its options and looking at different opportunities that they could propose to GM.” It said Toyota executives have “war gamed” possible scenarios by which it could help GM with its turnaround.

BusinessWeek quoted an unnamed Toyota executive who said, “Toyota has no interest in seeing an alliance like this [involving Renault, Nissan and GM] take place.”

GM CEO Rick Wagoner and Renault-Nissan boss Carlos Ghosn met Friday night in Detroit. The companies later issued a joint statement saying they will take about 90 days to explore potential benefits of a tie-up.

Wagoner hinted to Automotive News last week that deals with other automakers besides Renault-Nissan are possible.

“Could other things arise?” he said. “Sure, they could happen any time, but nothing else I can talk to you about today.”

Wait isn’t it you that’s the one that tries to spread the truth by giving only one side of any story and then tells others that disagree with you and what you stand for to shut up? This may sound crazy, but I garuntee that you’re very critical of this Bush administration (like you said, you call it as you see it) and would agree that they’re hush hush policy is dangerous and hypocritical as we have free speech in this country, we’re supposed to be democratic, etc. Telling me to shut up because you don’t like what I say is no better than the government. Who really cares who’s #1 ?, it really means nothing and is more of a pain in the ass for a corporation, as the media and public seem to always focus on and bash the #1 Team. So let Toyota have at it, let’s see if they can be #1 for as long as GM has been. Toyota’s recent quality issues really show just how difficult the growth really is, there are some cracks in the Toyota armor…….

Why am I a hyocrite? The truth is your just an idiot for assuming I’m a Toyota fanboy and that I’d come in here spin Toyota’s woes at home. More truth – I’ve never owned a Toyota vehicle, and I don’t see that changing any time soon.

However, I’ll call it like I see it. If that means supporting OR ripping on Toyota, GM, or any other manuafctuer I will. Just shutup unless you have a relevant opinion dumbass.

to number 1. in europe and japan no one wants an american car. they just dont work in thoose countries. all american cars are too ugly, cheap, have nasty interiors and **** milage for them to even compet with local products. infact in holland where i live only ppl who believe they are pimps or 70’s rockstars drive american cars.

it’s because toyota doesn’t make anything of interest… They make all these beige, sterile, ultra-safe designs. They don’t push the envelope anymore… The company that used to make an AWD turbo celica, a RWD turbo Supra, and the RWD drift box AE86, now makes absolute garbage from an enthusiast point of view… How are you going to shaft the enthusiasts? They are the heart and soul of car companies… They are the ones that give the thumbs up… They are your grassroots marketers. Enthusiasts spread the knowledge… They inform the general public with info like, “yeah this car kicks ass, it’s Turbo, RWD, can be tuned to make gobs of power, and gets great gas mileage”. If you don’t cater to the enthusiasts at all, you’ll start slipping in sales… WITHOUT A DOUBT.
