Evidence: BMW proceeds with 2009 M3 convertible

12/07/2006, 12:50 PM

By admin

Recent media reports have suggested BMW would not offer a convertible version of its next-generation M3 because the M division was not satisfied with the 2007 3-Series Convertible as a basis for the car. According to the reports, engineers felt the folding metal roof would make the car too top-heavy to be worthy of an M badge.

While there has been no confirmation one way or the other, spy photographers have snapped what appear to be photos of a 2009 BMW M3 Convertible prototype. The quad exhaust pipes, hood bulge, and new front and rear fascias make it painfully obvious that this is an M3. Our conclusion? The E93 M3 is most certainly a go. I hate the way these convertibles are looking. why cant they make the lines flow more like the SL without the jagged angles?

@Kaizen; Because they want this to have space for four people, and it still needs to be well enough constructed to not collapse in a rollover…
